Old Mission Peninsula School located in Traverse City is hiring a full time Music Teacher. Musts have a Michigan teacher certification with endorsement.

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Music Teacher to join our team. The Music Teacher will inspire and educate students in music theory, performance, and appreciation. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in music education, be enthusiastic about working with students of varying skill levels, and demonstrate innovative teaching methods that engage and motivate learners.

Responsibilities:

Essential Duties:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive lesson plans that meet the music curriculum standards and cater to diverse learning styles.
  • Teach a variety of music subjects, including vocal performance and/or instrumental music, music theory, and music history.
  • Prepare students for performances and competitions, including school concerts, recitals, and festivals.
  • Develop assessments and monitor student performance through various methods, including tests, quizzes, projects, performances, and presentations.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to align curricula and participate in ongoing professional development initiatives.
  • Participate in school activities, meetings, and events to contribute to the overall mission of the institution.
  • Maintain a safe and positive environment for all students
  • Maintain effective communication with students, parents, and school staff
  • Regular and predictable attendance

Cognitive Demands:

  • Supervision of multiple students at once
  • Establishing routines and procedures
  • Maintaining a safe and orderly environment
  • Create and implement instructional plans
  • Participate in continuous professional development
  • Effective oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands:

  • Occasionally lift/move objects weighing up to 25lbs
  • Stand and walk frequently
  • Occasionally sit on the floor or bend down/squat
  • Withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year
  • Withstand a moderate noise level
  • Be able to perform first aid/CPR if necessary
  • Assist/lift students, as necessary

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Education or a related field.
  • Valid teaching certification/license in Michigan for secondary education with an endorsement in the subject.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail in planning and assessing educational activities.
  • Proficient in various musical instruments and/or vocal techniques.
  • Strong understanding of music theory and composition.
