Overview:

The Board-Certified Music Therapist assesses, plans and implements appropriate interventions for medically fragile pediatric patients and families. In addition, the Music Therapist will manage caseload effectively to ensure delivery of efficient supportive care, facilitate both individual and group sessions, contribute to program development and hospital wide initiatives. This role also participates in educational initiatives, highlighting content to reflect most significant hospital needs, facilitates special events/visitors.

 

The Music Therapist reports to the Director of Therapeutic Development Support Services (TDSS).

 

This is an onsite position.

 

Work Schedule: Sunday-Thursday, 10am-6pm and 2 holidays.

Responsibilities:
  • Skillfully assesses each child’s musical cognitive, physical, social and emotional abilities when they enter the program.
  • Provides large/small group and individual music therapy sessions designed specifically on the goals and objectives stated in the care plans.
  • Designs and implements appropriate developmental activities.
  • Complete all required documentation accurately and on a timely basis.
  • Responsible for supervision and training of assigned interns.
  • Utilizes non-punitive ways of dealing with inappropriate behaviors; can exercise authority without undermining the child’s self-worth.
  • Maintains flexibility to meet scheduling needs.
  • Responsible for providing music/performances by the children on a bimonthly basis.
  • Works with the Community Relations Department on various internal and external events and projects.
  • Perform other duties as signed by supervisor.
Qualifications:
  • Minimum one year of experience working with a pediatric population.
Education, Licensure, and Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in music therapy from an accredited university in the US.
  • Music Therapist - Board Certified (MT-BC), LCAT (Licensed Creative Arts Therapist) preferred.
Physical Requirements:
  • Prolonged standing/walking.
  • Ability to transfer children and equipment.
  • Ability to meet flexible scheduling demands and to meet patient care needs which may include evenings, weekends and holidays.
