National HVAC/Chiller Field Service & Commissioning Technician

You touch down at a client site, open your toolkit, and bring a new chiller online. You fine‑tune parameters so the system runs as designed, verify safeties and controls, and walk the customer through performance benchmarks. The next day, you diagnose an electrical fault, log test results and parts, and collaborate with a project manager to close out a punch list. Later in the rotation, you join an advanced training session to stay sharp on new diagnostic tools and energy‑efficiency practices. Then you head home for meaningful time off—predictable, every cycle.

The Role

As a remote HVAC/Chiller Service expert, you will focus on start‑ups, troubleshooting, and lifecycle service for commercial and process HVAC systems nationwide. You will ensure installed systems perform to spec, deliver comfort and reliability, and operate efficiently.

What You’ll Tackle

• Commission newly installed HVAC equipment and chillers; validate operation, setpoints, and performance.
• Execute scheduled preventive maintenance to extend life and efficiency.
• Diagnose and repair issues including electrical faults, refrigerant leaks, and airflow problems.
• Confirm control logic and all safety devices function properly.
• Partner with project managers and install teams to quickly resolve post‑installation items.
• Document service actions, measurements, test outcomes, parts used, and adjustments.
• Translate technical findings into clear recommendations for customers.
• Follow safety codes, standards, and company procedures at all times.
• Stay current through ongoing training on HVAC technologies, diagnostic instruments, and energy best practices.

What You Bring

• 4+ years in commercial HVAC service or maintenance (installation experience is a plus).
• Advanced command of the refrigeration cycle.
• Expertise reading wiring schematics and methodical troubleshooting.
• EPA Type 1 & 2 Refrigerant Certification required.
• Clear communicator with strong customer service skills.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Comfort working on rooftops, in mechanical rooms, and in outdoor conditions.
• Residence in any U.S. state; willing to travel.

Travel & Schedule

This is a national field role with up to 80% travel. We design sustainable, predictable rotations—such as 14 days on / 7 days off or 21 days on / 14 days off—to support balance and meaningful home time. All business travel expenses are covered or reimbursed per company policy.

Compensation & Rewards

The anticipated hourly pay range is $50–$80 USD, depending on qualifications and experience. Johnson Barrow provides a comprehensive benefits package and reimburses business travel in accordance with company policy. Per diem and traveling costs are paid for assigned jobs.
