Job Description

The Department of Natural Resources, Division of Mining, Land & Water, is recruiting multiple Natural Resource Specialist 2/3s in Anchorage.

What You Will Be Doing:

At the Natural Resource Specialist 2 level

  • Work independently, or as a member of a team, to develop resource analyses, plan designations and management intent statements for specific parcels of state land.
  • Utilize programs such as ArcGIS Pro to evaluate resource data, create resource maps, and depict resource data and other information in associated documents.
  • Assist other programs/sections with land research, and support other sections as needed to prepare mineral orders, plan amendments and other related documents to ensure state land is appropriately classified for sale or lease.
  • Serve as project manager for less complex and contentious planning projects.

At the Natural Resource Specialist 3 level:

  • Serve as the project manager in the development of plans for state lands that are managed by DNR. This position is responsible for managing the plan development process, which includes formulating land and resource allocation proposals, policies, management intent, and guidelines for large areas of state lands.
  • Build and implement public processes to successfully convey complex and/or sensitive information to interested parties. This includes conducting public meetings in what can be high stress situations.
  • Represent the department in several capacities, including as a member of planning teams or advisory committees, interpreting and discussing policy issues.
  • Engender trust and build relationships with staff and decision-makers in various agencies; develop extensive expertise in planning, long-standing issues, federal and state regulatory frameworks, policies and land management authorities; and negotiate frequently with parties that may not share the Departments perspective.
