Pay Range: USD $44,920.00 - USD $91,000.00 /Yr. Overview:
Auburn University is excited to begin the search for aNatural Resources Specialistlocated in Fort Benning, Georgia.
 
This position performs a variety of professional forestry and wildlife management duties, providing expertise in natural resource conservation, habitat management, and environmental stewardship to support sustainable land and wildlife resource management initiatives.

 

This is a one-year limited-term position. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funding.

Responsibilities:
  • Collects, records, summarizes, and/or reports forest inventory and ecological monitoring data.
  • Assists with selecting and marking trees for sale, thinning, or disease control for designated timber stands, helps identify specific trees that are suitable for sale, thinning operations, or targeted disease control.
  • Conducts endangered species (flora and fauna) annual monitoring and data collection, which involves monitoring and collecting data on endangered plant and animal species found within the forest. Data elements collected include, but not limited to habitat conditions, habitat age, species location, abundance, size, condition, etc.
  • May assist with the production of presentation materials associated with the collected data, such as reports or MS PowerPoint presentations, and may include information on species status, habitat conditions, and changes.
  • Assists with prescribed burning under the appropriate supervision and while following Ft Benning’s guidelines and procedures.
  • Plants food plots for wildlife, promoting their habitat and overall health.
  • May assist with data collection for wildlife density and health studies, allowing for proper conservation and management strategies to be implemented.
  • May work in duded impact areas with an explosive ordinance escort for endangered species requirements.
Qualifications:

Level I:

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Wildlife Management, Biology, Ecology, Engineering, or a related field.

Level II:

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Wildlife Management, Biology, Ecology, Engineering, or a related field and 3 years of experience in natural resource management practices, wildlife habitat or population management, outdoor recreation, forestry, ecology, biology, or engineering.

Level III:

  • Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Natural Resources Management, Wildlife Management, Biology, Ecology, Engineering, or a related field and 3 years of experience in natural resource management practices, wildlife habitat or population management, outdoor recreation, forestry, ecology, biology, or engineering.

Licenses & Certifications

  • Valid Driver's License - Upon hire.
  • Ability to obtain a burning certificate may be required in specific positions
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of standard procedures and tests related to an engineering or scientific field.
