Navigator, English Second Language Learners - FT

Under the general direction and supervision of the ESL Assistant Director and Adult Education Director, the ESL Navigator will serve as the SCC Navigator/Advisor for prospective and current ESL students; assist with scheduling, planning, and conducting ESL orientations; participate in marketing, recruiting, and promotion of the program; and assist through various initiatives with student retention. This full-time regular position requires occasional Friday evening and Saturday shifts during testing times.

Essential Functions

  • Serve as a navigator and advisor for prospective and current ESL students, which includes, but is not limited to, career counseling, goal-setting, helping students navigate the adult education and higher education systems and processes, and introducing students to SCC programs of potential interest.
  • Assist with the scheduling, planning, and conducting of ESL orientations; supervise the testing team.
  • Assist with student intakes, testing, orientations, and class registration.
  • Assist in planning and development of marketing, public relations, and promotional material.
  • Assist in recruitment and community education of the program and services provided by the program and the College.
  • Serve as a Member of the Adult Education Team: Attend meetings as scheduled; contribute to meetings in constructive ways; communicate regularly and respectfully with supervisor and others in the department; exercise professionalism and teamwork.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, or a directly related field.
  • One (1) year of experience in teaching and program management/coordination.
  • One (1) year of experience working with non-native English language learners.

OR

  • Associate's degree plus two (2) or more years' experience in teaching or working with non-native English language learners

$43,136 per year

Benefits

SCC BEN Dollars - Eligible Employees: Full-time status. Regular employees with an FTE of 0.75 or greater will be eligible for SCC Ben Dollars. All employees will be required to elect a health insurance option. If the cost of insurance coverage selected by an employee exceeds the SCC Ben Dollars available, all additional costs will be withheld from the employee's paycheck. Any SCC Ben Dollars that the employee does not elect to use for the purchase of dependent health and dental insurance will be paid to the employee in cash at $0.93 per $1.00 benefit dollar. All amounts paid are subject to withholding for income and employment taxes, but not subject to the College's contribution toward the Retirement Savings Plan - Group Retirement Account (GRA).

Schedule

Normal working hours for this full-time regular position are scheduled between 7:00 a.m.and 10:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, requiring a minimum of a 40-hour work week, based on a 260-day work calendar. Scheduled special activities, emergencies, or temporary schedule changes may require hours outside of the regular workday or workweek. This position involves evening sessions and some weekend responsibilities.
