The role involves setting up and operating multi-axis NC/CNC lathes to perform various machining operations such as turning, facing, boring, threading, and more on metal forgings, castings, and bar stock. Responsibilities include programming, establishing work offsets, aligning workpieces, assembling and monitoring tools, verifying workpiece conformance with precision measuring tools, and adjusting machine parameters as needed.
The operator practices safety and good housekeeping, performs routine maintenance, and may support welding tasks like changing gas tanks and reels of wire. No supervision is required, but the role demands proficiency across multiple machine types and support tasks.
Qualifications include a high school diploma or G.E.D., with a preference for an associate degree or technical training. Candidates should have over four years of experience, basic computer skills, and knowledge of CNC control systems, material properties, and tooling. Skills in operating control panels and executing machining operations are essential.
