Job Title: NDT Level III Test Examiner (ASNT / NAVSEA)
Job Summary
The NDT Level III Test Examiner is responsible for training, examining, certifying, and monitoring nondestructive testing (NDT) personnel to ensure compliance with company, contractual, and regulatory requirements. This role provides technical oversight of NDT programs, approves procedures and workmanship standards, and ensures the integrity and effectiveness of inspection operations.
Key Responsibilities
Train, examine, certify, decertify, and recertify NDT personnel in accordance with applicable standards
Develop and administer NDT personnel training and certification programs
Approve NDT procedures, specifications, and workmanship standards
Provide technical support and resolve complex NDT issues
Interpret and apply applicable specifications, codes, and contractual requirements
Conduct site monitoring and surveillance of NDT personnel and operations
Perform required weld inspections and nondestructive testing including UT, MT, PT, visual, dimensional, and load testing
Review engineering and inspection documentation for compliance
Compile and prepare technical reports addressing reject rates, workmanship trends, and methodology impacts
Participate in product re-inspection and quality improvement initiatives
Provide counseling and corrective guidance regarding examination performance
Required Qualifications
Certified Nondestructive Test Examiner (ASNT Level III or NAVSEA 250-1500-1 Test Examiner)
UT certification with documented hours and supporting records
Minimum 2 years of relevant inspection experience as a certified examiner
Bachelor's degree in science or engineering plus 2 years of inspection experience
OR
5+ years of NDT technical experience (shipbuilding preferred) demonstrating equivalent theoretical and applied knowledge
Demonstrated knowledge of NDT techniques including UT, MT, PT, and visual inspection
Strong analytical, documentation, and communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
Prior Military experience (HT-4944 VT, MT, PT, UT Inspector)
Shipbuilding or heavy industrial inspection background
Experience evaluating reject rates and performing root cause analysis
Experience conducting audits and compliance surveillance
