NDE Inspector I (Full Time)

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS, RESPONSIBILITIES, QUALIFICATIONS, CONDITIONS, AND COMPETENCIES

NDE Inspector I
Perform a variety of technical inspections on fabricated sheet metal parts, machined parts, and weldments to meet customer and Piper quality standards. Inspection techniques include Pressure testing, Certified Visual Inspection & Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection.
Assists the Supervisor in the production of high-quality aircraft parts & subassemblies following Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions. Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.
Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:
- Work from Engineering drawings, Material Review Boards dispositions, Piper Process Specifications (PPS), Piper Material Specifications (PMS), Purchase Specifications (PS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations, Quality Assurance Manuals (QAM), various handbooks, travelers, engineering/tooling/rework orders, and written/verbal instructions.
- Ensure that only the latest approved applicable drawings, specifications, and instructions are used during inspection and testing.
- Accept/reject according to specifications.
- Provide written report regarding inspection and testing results as required.
- Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, tooling fixtures, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Supervisor.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records, files, and reports of all inspections and test conducted.
- Requires the use of and responsibility for various tools.
- Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate.
- Adjust work processes and shift schedule/hours to meet production schedules as determined by the supervisor or manager.
- Partner with senior teammates within career path to receive and share practical knowledge for proper training to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
- Adhere and maintain all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
- Perform duties as assigned by supervision.

Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.
Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:
- Work from Engineering drawings, Material Review Boards dispositions, Piper Process Specifications (PPS), Piper Material Specifications (PMS), Purchase Specifications (PS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations, Quality Assurance Manuals (QAM), various handbooks, travelers, engineering/tooling/rework orders, and written/verbal instructions.

- Perform First Part and Conformity inspections, as required.
- Accept/reject according to specifications.
- Examine defective parts to determine cause of defect and recommend change or modification.
- Monitor rework/repair.
- Note and report deviations from established specifications and initiate required documentation to effect corrections.
- Provide written report regarding inspection and testing results as required.
- Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, faulty equipment, tooling fixtures, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Supervisor.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records, files, and reports of all inspections and test conducted.
- Requires the use of and ownership of basic tools and various hand tools as specified by departmental tool list.
- Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate.
- Ability to and willingness to receive and share practical knowledge, train, cross-train and mentor teammates within career path to perform necessary job functions and requirements in order to attain satisfactory levels of performance and production effectivity.
- Adhere, maintain, assist and train teammates within career path to all departmental compliance requirements such as Safety, Environmental Protection, FOD and Tool Control, 5S and other assigned programs.
- Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.
Senior NDE Inspector
Perform a variety of technical inspections on fabricated sheet metal parts, machined parts, and weldments to meet customer and Piper quality standards. Inspection techniques include Pressure testing, Certified Visual Inspection, Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection, Magnetic Particle Inspection, Eddy Current Inspection and Ultrasonic Inspection. Provides technical and procedural guidance, as functional liaison for NDT matters.
Assists the Supervisor in the production of high-quality aircraft parts & subassemblies following Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions. Assists in meeting or exceeding planned production and delivery schedules while maximizing company resources to achieve company goals.
Essential Job Functions: Performs or assists the Supervisor in the following tasks:

- Perform audits of areas within the department as required to maintain compliance with all FAA and Piper operational requirements. Initiate related operational process or procedural corrective action, or request additional assistance from leadership or other support teams where necessary.
- Perform duties of lower graded position within Career Path and other duties as assigned by supervision.
Career Path Minimum Position Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent. Associates Degree preferred. Requires the ability to learn specialized knowledge along with the ability to interpret drawings and/or blueprints.
- Basic mathematics such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals, geometry, shop math, and the use of handbook formulas to calculate dimensions, convert angular to linear dimensions, and solve similar shop problems are required.
- Related NDE Inspector Experience Requirements:
o NDE Inspector I: 2 years of experience preferred
§ Ability to obtain a Level 2 certification in Visual Inspection and Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection per NAS 410 requirements. Any documented classroom and OJT hours must be presented.
o NDE Inspector II: 3 - 4 years of experience
§ Existing certification in Visual Inspection and Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection per NAS 410 required. Documented classroom and OJT Hours must be presented. Ability to obtain a Level 2 certification in Magnetic Particle Inspection per NAS 410 requirements. Documented classroom and OJT Hours must be presented.
o NDE Inspector III: 4 - 5 years of experience
§ Existing certification in Visual Inspection, Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection and Magnetic Particle Inspection per NAS 410 required. Documented classroom and OJT Hours must be presented. Ability to obtain a Level 2 certification in Eddy Current or Ultrasonic Inspection per NAS 410 requirements. Documented classroom and OJT Hours must be presented.
o Sr. NDE Inspector: 5 years of experience
§ Existing certification in Visual Inspection, Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection, Magnetic Particle Inspection, and either Eddy Current or Ultrasonic Inspection per NAS 410 required. Documented classroom and OJT Hours must be presented. Ability to obtain one additional Level 2 certification in either Eddy Current or Ultrasonic Inspection per NAS 410 requirements. Documented classroom and OJT Hours must be presented.
- Ability to work scheduled shift and hours, including overtime
- Ability to work with minimal supervision
- Ability to use hand tools, power tools, and PPE, including proper fit and use of respirators as required
- Follow all safety and environmental protection procedures
- Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and effective communication skills (written and verbal).
- Adhere to Piper Drawings, Process Specifications (PPS) and other manufacturing instructions
Physical Demands
- Demonstrates physical and functional ability to perform full anatomical range of motion to accomplish tasks. Evidence of visual and aural acuity and finger and hand dexterity to operate job specific equipment. Can withstand long periods of sitting, standing and/or constant walking. Other physical requirements include the ability to bend, kneel, crouch, twist, balance and reach above, out, and below.
- Employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and rarely lift and/or move over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Must be able to pass a Company administered vision exam.
