Function

  • This position is supported through grant funding. Continued employment is contingent upon the availability of funds.*

The purpose of this class is to conduct research, analyze, and evaluate administrative, operational, and organizational procedures, programs, goals, and objectives to ensure optimal utilization of resources. The role involves managing all aspects of grant programs and office procurement processes, as well as preparing written and oral reports and proposals, and presenting recommendations to diverse audiences. Additionally, the job entails performing a wide range of technical and administrative duties in support of the Citys Violence Prevention Efforts. There may also be a need to support special projects as required. The work is performed under general supervision from designated senior management.

Minimum Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associates Degree or Bachelors Degree (preferred) in Government, Public Administration, Project Management, Business, Accounting, Finance or other related field of study.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of experience in preparation of federal, state and private grant proposals and reporting.
  • A proven track record of success may be a consideration for this position.
  • Requires considerable office management experience, preferably within a municipal government or other service-related organization.
  • Requires computer skills that include proficiency in Word, Excel and Power Point.
  • Requires effective communication with internal and external customers.
  • Requires a good knowledge of financial principles underlying State and City laws and regulations pertaining to municipal government.
  • Must be able to perform mathematical computations with speed and accuracy.
  • Must successfully pass a background check related to this position prior to any offer of employment or promotion.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record based on the City of Hampton's criteria.

  • Must possess the ability to make decisions in accordance with established policies and procedures; must be able to coordinate and organize resources in efficient and effective ways to meet goals; must be able to multi-task.
  • Requires the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
  • Must be detail-oriented, possess good organizational and follow-up skills, and have the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines. Must be able to create and maintain harmonious relationships with diverse populations.
  • The incumbent may be considered "essential personnel" during city emergency situations, or at the direction of the City Manager or designee which may include long hours and unusual schedules.
