Newborns do not get a second chance at the first hours of life. This role exists to turn high-acuity moments into stable outcomes: leading resuscitation, guiding complex care, and giving families a clear plan when the stakes are highest. Success is measured in safer discharges, fewer preventable complications, and a unit that performs with consistency when the unexpected arrives.
Performance Objectives
Lead delivery-room and NICU resuscitations so high-risk infants receive the right intervention in the first minutes, with documented adherence to evidence-based protocols.
Direct care for premature and critically ill newborns, reducing unplanned escalations and preventable complications through timely diagnosis and treatment plans.
Own daily multidisciplinary rounds and produce clear, prioritized plans that nursing, respiratory therapy, and consulting services can execute without delay.
Counsel families on diagnosis, prognosis, and options so decisions are informed, documented, and aligned with the infant’s clinical course.
Improve unit quality metrics—infection, nutrition, respiratory outcomes, and length of stay—by leading at least one measurable improvement initiative each year.
Teach residents, fellows, and advanced practice clinicians so on-call decisions stay consistent when you are not at the bedside.
Coordinate transfers and follow-up so infants leave the NICU with a safe discharge plan and a defined outpatient path.
Environment & Resources
You will practice in a Level III/IV NICU with 24/7 coverage, in-house respiratory therapy, and immediate access to pediatric subspecialists. The role reports to the NICU medical director and partners daily with nursing leadership, neonatal nurse practitioners, and maternal-fetal medicine. You will have protected time for quality work, current monitoring and imaging, and a transport relationship for referrals that exceed local capability.
Essential Qualifications
MD or DO with board certification or active eligibility in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine.
Unrestricted state medical license, or eligibility to obtain one before start.
Demonstrated leadership of delivery-room resuscitation and management of extremely preterm and surgically complex newborns.
NRP instructor or equivalent teaching experience with trainees or advanced practice providers.
Record of improving a clinical outcome, protocol, or family-communication process—not attendance alone.
Ability to take call, make independent decisions overnight, and communicate clearly under pressure.
Role Selling Points
Real authority over the plan of care, not a consult-only seat.
A team structured for continuity, so your decisions are carried through the shift.
Quality time built into the role, with data you can act on.
A practice that values precise handoffs and family conversations as clinical work, not extras.
A path to grow as a clinical leader while staying at the bedside.
Call to Action
If you want your next role judged by the infants who leave stronger and the team that performs better because you were there, apply now. Send your CV and a short note on one outcome you improved.
