Description

The Information Technology Department is seeking a full-time Network Analyst to join the Client Services Team. This position provides advanced technical support and troubleshooting from desktop computing environments, network connectivity, and end-user technology across all City departments. The Network Analyst serves as a key resource for maintaining reliable technology services, supporting cybersecurity initiatives, and ensuring City employees have the tools and assistance necessary to effectively perform their work.

Essential Duties

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides PC support and network management to all City departments and agencies.
  • Provides tier 1 and tier 2 support for desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices, and peripherals.
  • Provides technical support to customers in-person, over the phone, via email, and via remote support software.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network connectivity issues.
  • Respond to service tickets, calls, and emails in a timely manner.
  • Deploy and maintain standard desktop images using tools like PDQ, Intune, or MDT.
  • Works with a team to respond to and resolve PC and network security events.
  • Evaluates user computer hardware and software needs and makes purchasing recommendations.
  • Set up new user accounts, profiles, and permissions in Active Directory or similar systems.
  • Works with a team to administer and maintain Active Directory, Office 365, and other collaboration tools.
  • Troubleshoot basic LAN/WAN, Wi-Fi, and VPN connectivity issues.
  • Coordinate warranty repairs and vendor support for hardware replacements.
  • Provides after-hours, on-call support on a rotating basis.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Other duties to provide direct or indirect service to the citizens may be assigned.
  • When unusual situations occur and/or the City Manager declares a State of Emergency, all City employees may be required to accept special assignments and perform as needed to ensure appropriate delivery service.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

Minimum Education and Experience Required

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience

Associates degree with major work in a technology-related field and at least 2 years of experience providing hands-on technical support for PC hardware, software, and other technology; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements

Language Skills

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures and other documents. Excellent writing skills required. Skilled in composing clear and concise emails, technical reports, and step-by-step support procedures to document issues and guide users effectively. Ability to speak effectively with end-users and explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical solutions.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

Interpersonal Skills

Excellent communication and customer service skills required. Tact and cooperation required. Communications involve both facts and opinions and coordination, such as scheduling meetings/service visits with other City employees. May provide leadership and guidance to teammates.

Computer Skills

Thorough knowledge of PC hardware, tablets, and other devices. Thorough knowledge of current versions of Windows, Office 365, antivirus software, and other software. Experience with networking concepts and technologies. Experience with managing Active Directory environments. Experience with using and managing VPN and remote support software. Experience with managing multi-factor authentication.

Other Requirements

  • CompTIA A+, Network+, and/or Security+ certifications preferred.
  • Possession of valid drivers license issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia and acceptable driving record according to City criteria. View Driving Criteria here.
  • Must successfully complete IS100 and IS700 National Incident Management (NIMS) training within 90 days of employment. May also be required to complete higher levels of NIMS training as determined appropriate for the position.
