Job Description

The Network Assistant will support our network engineering team during a campus-wide hardware refresh. You will handle the physical installation of equipment, manage cable infrastructure, decommission legacy phone lines, and audit network assets.

Key Responsibilities
• Hardware Installation: Mount pre-configured network switches into IDF racks.
• Cable Management: Migrate and route network patch cables between existing and new switches.
• Maintenance Windows: Activate new network switches during scheduled early morning maintenance periods.
• Troubleshooting Support: Assist Network Engineers with hands-on diagnostics and troubleshooting during switch activations.
• Legacy System Decommissioning: Remove analog wall phones and update internal inventory systems.
• Telephony Infrastructure: Reconfigure physical analog phone cross-connects on punch-down blocks.
• Asset Auditing: Validate and audit physical wired network jack IDs across campus buildings to generate accurate electronic documentation.

Position Requirements
• Technical Skills: Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel for data entry and spreadsheet documentation.
• Professional Traits: High attention to detail for inventory tracking, punctual attendance for early morning shifts, and strong collaborative skills.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions
• Lifting: Ability to lift, carry, and maneuver network equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Mobility: Ability to stand, walk across campus, and safely ascend/descend a 6-foot A-frame ladder throughout the day.
• Agility: Ability to crouch, bend, kneel, and crawl in confined spaces, IDFs, or underneath office desks to access cabling.
• Dexterity: Fine motor skills and manual dexterity to use standard hand tools, crimpers, and handle delicate electronic components.
