Network Engineer

Responsibilities:

Peraton supports the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) mission to deliver timely, reliable care and benefits to America's Veterans by engineering, operating, and modernizing a nationwide data center portfolio. Our team runs enterprise and regional data centers, telecommunications spaces, and secure network connections that host the systems Veterans depend on — from claims processing and pharmacy fulfillment to appointment scheduling and benefits delivery. We provide full-lifecycle data center and cloud engineering, 24×7×365 operations and monitoring, DCIM platform administration, analytics, and facility infrastructure reporting. Position Duties & Responsibilities 

• Design, implement, troubleshoot, and optimize data center network infrastructure supporting secure, resilient, and highly available services. 
• Own routing, switching, and network security fabric decisions and their execution through the CAB. 
• Lead L1–L3 troubleshooting on high-severity network incidents; drive RCA and preventive action. 
• Maintain cable schedules, network topology diagrams, and CM materials in accordance with TIA-942. 
• Author automation for provisioning, diagnostics, and monitoring.

Qualifications:

Requirements 

• Currently possess or be able to obtain VA Public Trust — High Risk (BI High) / Tier 4 background investigation. 
• Bachelor's in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field; 8+ years of enterprise data center network engineering experience. 
• Education substitutions (per Peraton Career & Compensation Framework): Master's degree substitutes ~2 years of required experience; Ph.D. substitutes ~5 years of required experience. In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, 4 additional years of relevant experience is acceptable (Associate's degree + 2 additional years also accepted for equivalent professional levels). 
• Deep hands-on experience with Cisco, Juniper, and/or Arista routing/switching platforms. 

Desired Skills, Tools & Certifications 

• Tools: Cisco / Juniper / Arista routing and switching platforms, F5 / Palo Alto for security services, SolarWinds NPM, Wireshark, Ansible, Python, and ServiceNow. 
• Processes: ITIL v4 service management, SAFe Agile / Scrum for iterative delivery, NIST 800-53 / RMF, ISO 27001, TIA-942, ASHRAE TC 9.9, VA CRISP alignment, NFPA 70/70E, and OSHA safety practices.; TIA-942; federal network security practices. 
• Certifications (desirable): Cisco CCNP / CCIE (Data Center or Enterprise), Juniper JNCIS/JNCIP, Palo Alto PCNSA/PCNSE, F5 CTS, CompTIA Network+ / Security+, CDCP., ITIL v4 Foundation (Practitioner/Managing Professional a plus), SAFe Practitioner or SAFe DevOps.

Target Salary Range: $104,000 - $166,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position. Salary is determined by various factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the position, the individual’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, and competencies, as well as geographic location and business and contract considerations. Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay.
