Job Summary

This position is located at the United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY. We are seeking a Network Engineer who can excel in a challenging and rewarding environment at the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy Headquarters.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, troubleshoot, analyze, and maintain Academy networks.
  • Configure, test, and maintain LAN/WAN/DMZ/Wireless networks and related services.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve network problems.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for all implemented networks, applications, and appliances.
  • Work in a government environment utilizing NIST and FISMA standards.

Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience in a structured environment implementing and administering network devices, setting, and maintaining policies.
  • Experience in configuring Cisco switches and routers.
  • Ability to design, plan, establish, and optimize wireless networks.
  • Experience with Aruba's architecture, including Wireless and Network Access Control.
  • Proficiency in Nutanix Prism and Acropolis hypervisor management.
  • Firewall and VPN configuration, management, and analysis skills.
  • Experience with network access security tools.
  • Proficiency in MS Server Active Directory and Group Policy Management.
  • PowerShell scripting and implementation skills.
  • Level 2 and Level 3 resolution experience in a Windows Server and Windows 11 environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including documentation.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and network optimization skills.
  • Team player willing to drive collaborative efforts across the organization to improve product quality, reduce expenses, and increase productivity.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • 5-7 years of experience in a related field.
  • Minimum one of the following certifications: CCNA or CCNP, ITIL v3 certification.
