Senior Network Engineer (F5 SME)

Overview

We are seeking a Senior Network Engineer with deep expertise in F5 technologies to join a growing infrastructure team. This role is ideal for an experienced F5 subject matter expert who can immediately contribute to critical initiatives, provide technical leadership, and help reduce reliance on outsourced consulting resources.

The primary focus of this position will be supporting and enhancing the organization's F5 environment, which represents a key strategic area and current skill gap within the team. Approximately 80% of the role will be dedicated to F5-related engineering and project work, with the remaining 20% focused on broader network engineering responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary technical expert for the organization's F5 infrastructure.
• Design, implement, optimize, and support F5 load balancing solutions across enterprise environments.
• Lead F5-related projects, upgrades, migrations, and enhancements.
• Develop and maintain F5 configurations, policies, and automation solutions.
• Manage and troubleshoot complex traffic management, application delivery, and network availability issues.
• Create and maintain iRules to support application delivery and business requirements.
• Administer certificate management processes and SSL/TLS implementations.
• Partner with infrastructure, security, and application teams to deliver scalable and highly available solutions.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members supporting the F5 environment.
• Support broader network engineering initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications

• 6+ years of hands-on experience administering and engineering F5 solutions in enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise with:
  • F5 LTM (Local Traffic Manager)
  • F5 GTM/GSLB (Global Traffic Manager / Global Server Load Balancing)
  • BIG-IP
  • BIG-IQ
  • Certificate and SSL/TLS management
  • iRules development and troubleshooting
• Experience leading F5 implementations, upgrades, and complex troubleshooting efforts.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals including TCP/IP, DNS, routing, switching, and application delivery.
• Scripting and automation experience, preferably with Python.
• Ability to work independently and serve as a technical leader within the organization.
• Strong communication and documentation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• F5 certifications (F5-CA, F5-CTS, F5-CSE, or equivalent).
• Experience with infrastructure automation and configuration management tools.
• Experience supporting large-scale, highly available enterprise environments.
• Exposure to cloud networking and hybrid infrastructure environments.
