Zachary Piper Solutions is currently seeking a Network Infrastructure Engineer. This is a full-time, 100% onsite position. This role is critical in ensuring resilient, compliant, and mission-ready network infrastructure supporting Navy operations. As the Network Infrastructure Engineer, you will provide both hands-on engineering while also architecting and troubleshooting enterprise Layer 1-4 network solutions in classified and mission-critical environments.

Key Responsibilities

Physical Infrastructure Leadership (Primary Focus)

  • Coordinate and provide technical direction to teams of ISP and OSP cable technicians.
  • Develop installation standards for racks, patch panels, fiber enclosures, and cable management systems.
  • Validate termination, labeling, certification, and documentation of copper/fiber installations.
  • Oversee infrastructure testing using OTDR, fiber certification tools, and copper cable analyzers.
  • Review and approve as-built drawings, cable schedules, and infrastructure diagrams.
  • Ensure strict compliance with Navy facility standards, NEC codes, TIA/EIA standards, and DoD security requirements.
  • Coordinate outage windows, cutovers, and upgrades to minimize operational disruption.
  • Provide daily tasking, QA oversight, and accountability for cabling teams.

Network Engineering (Layer 2-4)

  • Design and implement VLAN architectures, segmentation strategies, and secure enclave boundaries.
  • Configure trunking, spanning tree protocols, and Layer 2 switching technologies.
  • Implement IP addressing schemes, subnetting, and Layer 3 routing configurations.
  • Troubleshoot across OSI Layers 1-4, correlating physical infrastructure issues with logical network behavior.
  • Configure routing protocols, ACLs, QoS, and secure routing paths.
  • Conduct performance analysis, capacity planning, and growth modeling for enterprise networks.

Operational & Compliance Oversight

  • Serve as the primary technical authority for physical and logical infrastructure issues.
  • Ensure all installations and configurations comply with DISA STIGs, RMF controls, and DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Support vulnerability remediation and secure configuration baselines.
  • Coordinate change management activities and maintain accurate and validated network documentation.
  • Support incident response and root cause analysis related to physical or network-layer failures.

Requirements

  • 8+ years enterprise network engineering experience.
  • Experience contributing to ISP/OSP cable installation teams.
  • Deep understanding of structured cabling standards (TIA/EIA) and fiber/copper infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing VLANs and Layer 3 routing.
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot across Layers 1-4.
  • Active Secret Clearance.
  • IAT Level II certification (Security+, CySA+, CCNA-Security, GICSP, GSEC, or SSCP).

Compensation to include

  • Salary Range: $150,000 - $160,000 (depending on experience)
  • Full Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, 401(k), PTO, Sick Leave as required by law
