Network Infrastructure Technician | NDSU IT Division

Description & Details:

The Network Infrastructure Technician works independently and as part of a team to provide support, testing, installation, replacement, and maintenance of campus network infrastructure, including fiber and copper cabling, data network, cable TV network, card access, video surveillance, campus alerting, and related equipment. The Technician is responsbile for responding appropriately to IT emergencies, as well as being familiar with wireless and wired router and switch equipment in order to complete daily services orders, locates, and trouble tickets.

The Technician role includes pulling, installing, punching down, interconnecting, terminating, splicing, locating, and all other tasks related to installation of various types of copper and fiber optic network media, and related devices including battery power supplies, wired and wireless network, video surveillance, fire alarm network, and other equipment supported by the Enterprise Networks team. The successful candidate will ensure that all installations meet local, state, and federal codes and requirements. The position also performs duties related to circuit alterations on the Cosmic Frame.

Work Schedule:

University business hours (Monday through Friday, 8-5); there may be infrequent times when weekend or evening work is required. Note: this position is located on site (not remote) at the NDSU main campus in Fargo, North Dakota.

Hiring Range:

$60,000 - $73,000+DOE

Pay is based on several factors, including budget, labor market, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and/or certification and other business considerations.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years' experience working directly with all installation and maintenance phases of structured network cabling including pulling, terminating, labeling testing, and troubleshooting network cables, installing pathways
• 2 or more years working with various hand and power tools.
• Knowledge of using Windows PC, email, and data entry
• Valid driver's license
• Must be able to perform duties under various work conditions, which include elevated platforms, climbing ladders, confined spaces, hot and cold temperatures

Preferred Qualifications:

• 5 or more years' of experience working directly with all installation and maintenance phases of structured network cabling including pulling, terminating, labeling testing, and troubleshooting network cables, installing pathways
• 1 or more years of experience installing data networking equipment such as network switches, wireless access points, cameras
• Knowledge of interpreting and reading blueprints
• Knowledge of structured cabling specifications and installation requirements
• Knowledge of fiber optic splicing and testing
• Familiarity with construction safety practices
• Building Industry Consulting Services International. - BICSI Certified Technician
• Panduit Installer certification
• Licensed or certified low voltage electrician/Power Limited license
