Support Network Reliability, Infrastructure Readiness, and Technology Operations

Georgia System Operations Corporation (GSOC) is seeking a Network Operations & Infrastructure Intern to support the Network Engineering organization within Operations. This opportunity provides hands-on exposure to the network infrastructure, documentation, monitoring, inventory, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities that help support reliable electric system operations.

As a Network Operations & Infrastructure Intern, you will work alongside network engineering professionals and contribute to meaningful technical projects and recurring operational activities. You will help strengthen network documentation, inventory accuracy, infrastructure readiness, and support processes while gaining practical experience in a professional, mission-critical technology environment.

This opportunity is ideal for a technically curious and analytical student who enjoys solving problems, working with technology, documenting technical information, and learning how enterprise network operations support essential services.

What You'll Do

As a Network Operations & Infrastructure Intern, you will support projects and recurring activities that contribute to network reliability, technical documentation, inventory accuracy, infrastructure readiness, and operational effectiveness.

You will:

  • Update network diagrams and related technical documentation to improve accuracy and usability.
  • Audit device inventory and validate IP addressing records for accuracy and completeness.
  • Review network monitoring alerts and support follow-up documentation or escalation activities as directed.
  • Create and maintain knowledge base articles that support network operations and recurring technical activities.
  • Perform software inventory and assist with network maintenance preparation and documentation.
  • Assist with equipment staging and participate in change review activities under appropriate supervision.
  • Support troubleshooting of network Layer 1 and Layer 2 issues while developing practical diagnostic skills.
  • Organize project findings, document completed work, and communicate progress, questions, or barriers to the appropriate team members.
  • Present a summary of your projects, accomplishments, outcomes, and key learnings at the conclusion of the assignment.

What You Bring

  • Current enrollment in a degree program in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
  • Interest in network engineering, network operations, infrastructure support, cybersecurity, monitoring, device inventory, or technical troubleshooting.
  • Basic understanding of networking concepts, including foundational network layers, network devices, IP addressing, monitoring, or troubleshooting principles.
  • Comfort using Windows applications and standard productivity tools for documentation, tracking, and communication.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a willingness to investigate issues and learn from experienced professionals.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining accurate technical documentation and inventory information.
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document work and communicate progress or barriers.
  • Strong organization and time-management skills, including the ability to manage assignments and meet deadlines.
  • A collaborative, accountable, and learning-oriented approach to technical work in a professional environment.

Preferred Qualifications

Networking & Infrastructure

  • Coursework, lab experience, academic projects, or prior experience involving networking concepts, infrastructure support, operating systems, cybersecurity, monitoring, or technical documentation.
  • Exposure to network diagrams, device inventories, IP addressing, software inventories, or knowledge base documentation.
  • Interest in network maintenance, equipment staging, change review, monitoring, and operational support.

Technical Knowledge & Troubleshooting

  • Cisco coursework, Cisco certification, networking labs, or other hands-on technology experience is helpful but not required.
  • Foundational understanding of Layer 1 and Layer 2 networking concepts and troubleshooting practices.
  • Interest in developing practical skills in network operations, infrastructure reliability, and technical problem-solving.

  • Expected Term: Spring 2027 preferred; Summer 2027 may also be considered.
  • Expected Schedule: Full-time.
