The Work
The Network Specialist, Junior will play a pivotal role in supporting the organization’s information systems infrastructure. This position requires a foundational understanding of network systems to contribute to the design, implementation, and maintenance of Local Area Networks (LAN), Metropolitan Area Networks (MAN), and Wide Area Networks (WAN). The candidate will provide technical guidance, troubleshoot performance issues, and ensure the stability of network operations. Additionally, the Network Specialist will interact with vendor support services and contribute to capacity planning and escalation procedures.

Responsibilities:
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance for the direction and monitoring of information systems operations, ensuring maximum network efficiency.
- Design, build, implement, and maintain network systems, including LAN, MAN, and WAN infrastructures.
- Direct and oversee the compilation of records and reports related to network operations and maintenance.
- Troubleshoot and resolve network performance issues, ensuring timely resolution and root cause analysis.
- Analyze network traffic metrics to help optimize performance and provide capacity planning recommendations.
- Actively monitor and address complex hardware and software issues within technical control facilities.
- Collaborate with vendor support service organizations to facilitate escalation processes during outages or periods of degraded system performance.
- Manage end-to-end processes for the procurement, testing, installation, and support of network communications hardware and software.

Qualifications:
Qualifications – Here’s What You Need
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in related network functions is preferred.
- Certifications (Preferred):
- Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT).
- CompTIA Security+, or other equivalent certifications.
- Strong understanding of basic networking concepts, protocols, and practices.
- Proficiency in analyzing and troubleshooting network performance issues and providing efficient solutions.
- Familiarity with network monitoring tools and techniques for ensuring system uptime and performance.
- Ability to work collaboratively with technical teams and liaise with vendor service groups to address network challenges.
- Knowledge of network hardware/software configurations and capacity planning strategies.
- Effective communication and documentation skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- A Top-Secret Security Clearance is required.
- Must be able to pass a background check. May require additional background checks as required by projects and/or clients at any time during employment.

- Proficient in MS Office, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- High-pressure decision-making during network outages and during critical project deadlines may require strong problem-solving capabilities and stress management skills.

Reports to: Program Manager
Working Conditions
- Professional office environment, with the ability to work onsite in the main office.
- May require lifting and carrying computer or networking equipment (e.g., servers and routers) weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Frequent use of tools, cables, and other equipment to perform installations and repairs.
- Ability to move around technical spaces, such as server rooms or data centers, which may involve bending, kneeling, or climbing ladders.
- Must be physically and mentally able to perform duties extended periods of time.
- Ability to use a computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed to meet the demands of this position.
- May require working in high-security areas under strict access controls due to sensitive information or classified materials.
- Compliance with security clearances and monitoring systems is mandatory.
- Must be able to establish a productive and professional workspace.
- Must be able to sit for long periods of time looking at computer screen.
- May be asked to work a flexible schedule which may include holidays.
- May be asked to travel for business or professional development purposes.
