Personnel in this job role work with products or solutions based on any vendor hardware and/or any vendor operating system software, specifically including:
- Cisco routers, switches, and firewalls
- Palo Alto firewalls
- Checkpoint firewalls
- Telecommunication Silverpeak SD-WAN
- Infoblox DNS, DHCP, and IPAM
- F5 global traffic managers and local traffic managers (load balancers)
- Aruba wireless networking
Personnel in this role apply their technical skills to support the operation and maintenance of vendor products, services, and solutions. Individuals who are part of support typically have responsibility for sizing, troubleshooting, and responding to and resolving critical customer support situations. They use network management and monitoring tools like:
- ServiceNow
- Solarwinds Orion
- Datadog
To support global uptime objectives, perform issue diagnosis and resolution, and optimize overall service delivery quality. They also test and perform upgrades to the systems they manage, and support projects which rely on networking technologies to succeed.
In addition to the technical skills listed above, personnel in this role must have excellent oral and written communication skills, a focus on customer satisfaction and support, time management skills, and must take initiative to identify and resolve problems in their domain. They must understand how to balance business and technical objectives and priorities, work well within a team dynamic, and operate with minimal supervision to achieve shared goals and desired outcomes.
