Description

This position provides special and technical support for department computer systems. Responsible for having working knowledge of all computers, software and other devices used by City staff. Assists in installation and maintenance of personal computers, software applications and information technology.

Examples of Duties

  • Uses an established tracking system to log requests, monitors progress and track problematic issues. Analyze issues and review possible solutions. Communicate with staff regarding implementation and solutions. Document results.
  • Assist in Implementation of projects that are given to your team by the Communications Project Manager.
  • Install all software and software upgrades on applicable devices.
  • Research information concerning computer equipment and software.
  • Assist with maintenance and inventory on all computer equipment.
  • Assist in training new employees on applications and software.
  • Assist in maintaining bar coding computer program; to include data entry and inventory procedures.
  • Assists in planning, implementing, supporting, and maintaining security systems, firewalls, spam filters, malware, virus protection, and policies to provide requisite protection against viruses and other destructive or invasive software.
  • Assist in maintaining in-car camera system and is responsible for retention of data. Trouble-shoots problems with system as required.
  • Assist in maintaining computer systems in offices and vehicles and other portable devices. Trouble-shoots problems with system as required.
  • Assist with all SunGard software.
  • Provide polite, responsive, adaptable customer service.
  • Secondary: When not doing items under your primary assist IT Infrastructure team as needed.
  • Possesses physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, to include operating assigned equipment, transporting and installing computer hardware.
  • May be required to work extended and/or irregular hours under emergency conditions.
  • Maintains confidentiality in the performance of duties.
  • Manage staff to provide a high level of customer service when communicating with others.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Typical Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of computer hardware and software programs. AS/400 and Windows preferred. Skill with computer network system. Ability to communicate clearly with computer professionals and software / hardware companies. Possess physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities, to include transporting and installing computer hardware. Ability to communicate verbally and in writing with City employees, government agencies, business vendors and suppliers, and the general public.

Education, Certification and Experience: High school diploma required. Previous experience with computers, hardware, software and information technology. Valid Driver's License required. Must obtain a Kansas Driver's License within 60 days of establishing residency.

Supplemental Information

Environment: Work is performed in an office, where temperature, contaminants, and noise are not normally encountered; hazards are minor and controllable. Minimal to moderate stress and interruptions typically found in an office environment.

Physical Characteristics: Duties require moderate physical work lifting weights of 26-50 pounds encountered and lifting and carrying objects up to 25 pounds; standing, walking, sitting, bending, kneeling, pushing, pulling, climbing, etc.
