SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY

The Network Technician will support and maintain the districts network infrastructure, including physical cabling, fiber, Cat 6A, VoIP, and legacy phone systems, PA systems, UPS, and two-way radio communication systems. This position is critical to ensuring the reliable operation of IPSs connectivity, communication, and power support systems across all district schools and administrative sites.

WHAT YOULL DO

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like:

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot physical network cabling, including fiber optic and Cat 6A cabling across district facilities.
  • Perform testing, repairs, and upgrades to network connections to ensure reliable performance and minimal downtime.
  • Assist with the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of UPS systems to provide power redundancy for critical infrastructure.
  • Support the installation, configuration, and maintenance of VoIP Mitel systems, including troubleshooting phone connectivity and performance issues.
  • Assist with managing and maintaining PA systems to ensure reliable school-wide communication for daily operations and emergency notifications.
  • Support district-wide two-way radio systems, including programming, repairs, and testing to ensure clear communication for staff and administrators.
  • Assist Network Engineers with the deployment and maintenance of switches, routers, wireless access points, and related network devices.
  • Support hardware replacements, firmware updates, and routine maintenance of networking equipment.
  • Document network equipment inventory, locations, and service activities for accurate records.
  • Respond to tickets and requests related to network connectivity, cabling issues, or communication systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware or communication system malfunctions, escalating complex issues to the Network Engineers, Lead Network Technician, or Manager of Network Operations as needed.
  • Perform routine checks and proactive maintenance to ensure network and communication systems operate efficiently.
  • Collaborate with Network Engineers, digital strategy teams, and school staff to support network and communication needs for district operations.
  • Maintain accurate documentation for cabling layouts, UPS configurations, and communication system setups.
  • Assist with projects related to infrastructure upgrades, new installations, or school expansions.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum 2 years of experience in network cabling, VoIP systems, or telecommunications support.
  • Experience installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining fiber optic cabling, Cat 6A, or other structured cabling systems.
  • Familiarity with UPS systems, VoIP phone systems, PA systems, or two-way radio equipment.
  • Preferred:
  • Certifications such as BICSI Installer Level I or II or related technical credentials.
  • Experience working in a K-12 educational environment.
  • Familiarity with Mitel VoIP systems or similar phone technologies.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Full-time position based at the IPS district office with regular travel to school and administrative sites.
  • Requires physical activity, including lifting, climbing ladders, and working in confined spaces or above ceilings.
  • May require after-hours availability for maintenance, upgrades, or emergency repairs.
