NETWORK TECHNICIAN


JOB SUMMARY

Zirrus is seeking an experienced Network Technician to support the installation, provisioning, testing, maintenance, and troubleshooting of transport, broadband, voice, and business services across our fiber-optic network. This position is responsible for supporting the day-to-day operation of network infrastructure, customer service activations, transport systems, and Central Office equipment throughout the Zirrus service area.

The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of telecommunications and IP networking technologies, demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills, and be capable of working independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

This is not a hybrid role or a work-from-home position.  The individual will be required to work in the office on a daily basis.



Responsibilities

  • Install, provision, test, and maintain transport, broadband, voice, and business service infrastructure.
  • Perform service activations and turn-up testing for customer and carrier services.
  • Troubleshoot network, transport, and customer-impacting service issues.
  • Install, maintain, and upgrade Central Office and network equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and software upgrades on network equipment.
  • Support fiber transport systems, Ethernet services, DWDM platforms, and carrier network infrastructure.
  • Read and interpret engineering diagrams, network drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Utilize test equipment to diagnose and resolve network and fiber-related issues.
  • Work with Network Engineering, Operations, Customer Support, and Construction teams to resolve service issues and complete projects.
  • Maintain accurate records of installations, maintenance activities, and network changes.
  • Participate in after-hours maintenance activities and on-call rotations as required.
  • Travel throughout the Zirrus service area to support network operations.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Working knowledge of IP networking concepts, including LAN, WAN, VLAN, routing, switching, and Ethernet services.
  •  Understanding of fiber optic communications and transport networks.
  • Ability to install, rack, cable, and maintain telecommunications equipment.
  • Familiarity with network monitoring, management, and provisioning platforms.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Visio.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and vendor documentation.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or Associates degree from an accredited college or university in electrical, electronic, mechanical      engineering, or related field experience.
  • 5 years of telecommunications experience specializing in electronic telecommunications systems and the design, construction, troubleshooting and maintenance of large regional or statewide communications system.
  • Experience with carrier-grade transport and Ethernet networks.
  • Experience with Ciena, Cisco, Adtran, Calix, or similar telecommunications equipment.
  • Experience provisioning and troubleshooting transport, Ethernet, broadband, or voice services.
  • Experience with fiber optic testing equipment and methodologies.
  • Experience working in a Central Office environment.
  • Experience with OTDR (Optical Time Domain Reflectometer), JDSU/Viavi and EXFO, Light meters and related equipment.
  • Network equipment (NE) experience, including but not limited to logging in, provisioning non-default parameters, performing preventative maintenance, performing in-service upgrades, and diagnosing and troubleshooting troubles in NE to the card level.
