Description

Sauk Valley Community College (SVCC) invites applications for the position of Learning Commons Tutoring Instructional Assistant. Responsible for SVCC enterprise database maintenance and support. This position serves as the primary technical and operational backup to the Director of Infrastructure and Networking Services, ensuring continuous coverage of core campus servers, storage, virtualization, and network health. Concurrently, this role serves as a key technical backup to the Enterprise Systems and Database Management Lead, providing secondary database administration, maintenance, and application support for the Banner student information system.

Located in rural northwestern Illinois along the scenic Rock River, SVCC is situated between the cities of Dixon and Sterling, placing it just one hour from Rockford and the Quad Cities, and two hours west of Chicago. Examples of Duties

• Perform technical activities related to the design, analysis, development, and tuning of the Oracle databases and Banner.
• Monitor Oracle database backups, clone and refresh databases from the production environment to development and testing environments as needed.
• Develop triggers and other programs as needed for business processes.
• Maintain various security grants and roles for the Oracle database structure and within the Banner security construct.
• Perform systems installation, integration, maintenance, and performance management of the Oracle databases.
• Provide backup support and technical assistance to the Enterprise Systems and Database management Lead for the installation, analysis, and upgrade execution of Banner, Argos, and other database-dependent applications across all production, development, and test environments.
• Maintain and update Banner servers and serve as the primary operational backup to the Director of Infrastructure and Network Services regarding maintenance, monitoring, server patching, and disaster recovery execution of the College's technical infrastructure.
• Provide backup Active Directory administration and user provisioning systems to support seamless onboarding, access, and system permission workflows.
• Document internal system infrastructure and workflow processes.
• Provide backup support to other ITS personnel as assigned by supervisor.
• Assume all other reasonable professional duties and responsibilities as assigned by the supervisor.
• In coordination with the Enterprise Systems and Database Management Lead, co-manage and test Oracle database backups, database cloning, and refreshing schedules to guarantee 100% data redundancy and environment readiness for campus testing.

Essential Functions:

• Knowledge of database operations; knowledge of voice, data, and video networking.
• Understand and support the mission of the community college.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbally and written.
• Ability to provide and understand verbal/visual orders from supervisors and to subordinates.
• Excellent technical writing skills.
• Availability to work non-standard hours as needed and on-call availability in case of system malfunctions and must perform upgrades and maintenance during off-hours.
• Ability to work in a safe and alert manner.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent education and experience preferred, with a minimum of 5 years' experience in system administration or database management.

Demonstrated experience with Oracle SQL, database administration and server virtualization strongly preferred.

Experience working within Ellucian Banner environment is highly preferred.
