Position Title
Neurology Advanced Practice Provider (Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner)
Position Summary
The Neurology Advanced Practice Provider (APP) delivers comprehensive care to patients with acute and chronic neurological conditions across inpatient and outpatient settings. The APP works collaboratively with neurologists and multidisciplinary teams to provide timely evaluations, optimize treatment plans, and improve patient outcomesparticularly in time-sensitive conditions such as stroke and seizure disorders.
Key Responsibilities
1. Inpatient / Hospital Responsibilities- Perform neurologic evaluations, including detailed history and neurological exams
- Manage acute neurologic conditions (stroke, seizures, encephalopathy, neuromuscular disorders)
- Participate in daily rounds (ICU and floor)
- Respond to neurology consults from ED and inpatient services
- Assist with stroke alerts and rapid response evaluations
- Coordinate care with ICU teams, hospitalists, and rehabilitation services
2. Outpatient / Clinic Responsibilities- Evaluate new and follow-up patients with neurologic disorders
- Manage chronic conditions (epilepsy, migraine, MS, Parkinsons disease, neuropathy)
- Order and interpret diagnostic studies (EEG, EMG, MRI, CT, labs)
- Adjust medications and treatment plans
- Provide patient and family education
3. Procedural Responsibilities (if applicable)- Perform lumbar punctures (if credentialed)
- Assist with EMG/NCS (depending on training and site)
- Participate in Botox clinics (e.g., migraine, spasticity)
4. Call & Coverage Responsibilities- Participate in call rotation (including nights/weekends if required)
- Assist in stroke coverage (including telestroke if applicable)
- Provide cross-coverage for inpatient neurology service
5. Documentation & Compliance- Complete timely and accurate documentation in EMR
- Ensure compliance with stroke protocols and national quality metrics
- Support performance improvement initiatives (e.g., door-to-needle times)
6. Collaboration & Leadership- Work closely with neurologists, neurosurgery, ED, ICU, and rehab teams
- Participate in stroke committee and quality initiatives
- Assist in protocol development and standardization of care
Qualifications
Required- Graduate of accredited PA or NP program
- Board certification (PA-C or NP)
- Active state license (or eligibility)
- DEA license (or eligibility)
- BLS and ACLS certification
Preferred- Experience in neurology, stroke, ICU, or hospital medicine
- Familiarity with stroke protocols and NIH Stroke Scale
Skills & Competencies- Strong neurologic assessment skills
- Ability to manage high-acuity patients
- Rapid decision-making in time-sensitive conditions
- Excellent communication and teamwork
Salary:$150,000plus benefits plus incentives up to 15,000 per year
