    Job Description

    The licensed neuropsychologist provides a full range of clinical services to Connecticut Children's patients and their families. These services include comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations, brief assessments, and clinic consultations. The neuropsychologist provides consultation and collaboration with relevant team members to promote patient/student needs. The neuropsychologist also collaborates with community agencies, schools and mental health care providers to facilitate the provision of comprehensive services. The psychologist may provide a % FTE focused on research specific to a chronic illness population.

    Education and/or Experience Required:

    • Education Required: Doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology/School Psychology/Counseling Psychology required, with an emphasis in neuropsychology. Must have completed an APA approved internship and a two-year post-doctoral fellowship in neuropsychology in accordance with the Houston Conference guidelines.

    Education and/or Experience Preferred:

    • Experience Preferred: Experience with children and adolescents is preferred.

    License and/or Certification Preferred:

    • Licensure by Connecticut State Department of Public Health as a Psychologist.
    • CPR certification required within 60 days of hire and renewed every 2 years.

    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

    Knowledge:

    • Theories, principles, techniques and practices of psychotherapy and behavior change.
    • Human development and child and adolescent psychopathology and diagnosis.
    • Clinical and behavioral presentation of children with emotional disturbance and developmental disabilities.
    • Functional neuroanatomy.
    • Neurological and related disorders including their etiology, pathology, course and treatment.
    • Neuropsychology of behavior.
    • Child care/Child welfare agencies and continuum of care services.

    Skills:

    • Neuropsychological assessment techniques.
    • Case conceptualization with integration of referral questions, history, and assessment findings.
    • Effective oral and written communication skills.
    • Education of referral sources regarding neuropsychological services.
    • Communication of evaluation results and recommendations.
    • Consultation and teaming skills.

    Ability To:

    • Conduct comprehensive neuropsychological evaluations to children, adolescent and young adults.
    • Develop clinical treatment plans based on evaluation results.
    • Collaborate effectively with team members, parents, caretakers, care providers, agency representatives and students.
    • Intervene effectively in crisis situations.
    • Adhere to documentation standards.
    • Adhere to professional standards of conduct, ethical standards and CCMC Code of Conduct.

    Assess pediatric outpatients and inpatients with a wide range of cognitive, medical and developmental disorders through the selection, administration, and interpretation of neuropsychological and psychological tests.

    Provide findings and recommendations to patients, families, and a multidisciplinary team.

    Conduct brief assessments in multidisciplinary clinics to identify psychological and neuropsychological needs of patients and provide appropriate recommendations for care.

    Consult with multidisciplinary teams to optimize medical and psychological care.

    Participate in clinical research activities, including quality improvement initiatives.

    Provide supervision to pediatric psychology and neuropsychology pre-doctoral interns and postdoctoral fellows, as well as teaching of medical students and pediatric residents.

    Clinical Training and Professional Development:

    Participates in clinical training including case conferences and clinical seminar.

    Supervises/trains graduate practicum students and other trainees as assigned.

    Participates in staff development activities

    Maintains professional expertise through involvement in professional organizations and continuing education programs.

    Case Coordination:

    Assesses needed services and supports and makes efforts to secure as appropriate.

    Communicates with appropriate agencies to keep providers informed of relevant developments.

    Maintains collegial relationships with team members, responding to concerns, assessing progress and communicating on case developments.

    Age-Specific and Cultural Competencies:

    Demonstrates knowledge of population-specific differences and needs from pre-school through young adulthood and applies this knowledge.

    Demonstrates cultural sensitivity in all interactions with patients/families and co-workers.

    Performs other related responsibilities as assigned.
