Job Summary and Responsibilities

As our Neurosurgery Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP), you will help people needing neurosurgery care get the best possible care from start to finish so they can recover well and get back to living their lives.

Every day you will be deeply involved in every step of a patient's neurosurgery journey, whether in the clinic, the operating room, or in the hospital. You will be expected to help out in surgery, check on patients in the hospital, lead rounds, manage their care after surgery, and explain things clearly to patients and their families, acting as their main guide and supporter.

To be successful in this role, you must be a skilled and caring provider who loves working with a team, strives for excellent surgical results, and truly cares about patients.

  • Provide in-person patient care during typical Neurosurgeon clinic hours and elective OR schedule on weekdays (minimum of 32 hours/week).
  • Provide first assist support in the Operating Room for neurosurgical procedures.
  • Provide coverage for Inpatient consults and rounding as needed at Penrose Hospital.
  • Conduct pre-operative assessments, patient education, and post-operative management.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with patients, families, and the multidisciplinary care team regarding treatment plans and progress.

Job Requirements

Required

  • Masters degree from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program
  • Active Physician Assistant (PA) license or Nurse Practitioner (NP) license in the State of Colorado
  • Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) certification (NCCPA) or Nurse Practitioner board certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (American Heart Association)

Preferred

  • 2 (+) Years Of Experience In surgical departments with surgical experience
  • Neurosurgery and Operating Room (OR) first assist experience strongly preferred
  • NP candidates must have documented surgical first assist experience
