New P/T Wellness & Event Center Lifeguard Position

As a part-time WEC Lifeguard, the position holder is responsible for supervising & observing the pool environment, ensuring the safety of all bathers & visitors, enforcing all facility rules & regulations, and assisting the Aquatic Director with any aquatics related tasks as assigned. To accomplish this role, responsibilities will include, but not limited to:

  • Work with fellow WEC lifeguards to keep constant surveillance of the pool and deck area & ensuring the safety of all guests
  • Enforce all facility and NJIT rules and regulations, including but not limited to those posted on pool signs
  • Act in emergency situations in accordance to training and WEC pool handbook
  • Provides assistance with aquatic related tasks assigned by Aquatic Director, including but limited to setting up pool or deck for activities & events
  • Keep accurate and appropriate records of pool usage, water chemistry, and all incidents as outlined in WEC pool handbook
  • Keep appropriate certifications current and valid

Prerequisite Qualifications:

  • State Approved certification for Lifeguard with CPR/AED & First-aid
  • Additional water related certifications preferred (WSI, Instructor, etc.)
  • Former Lifeguard experience preferred
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with guests and other staff members required.
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn and remember NJIT policies and regulations for Facility use.
  • Must possess the ability to foster a cooperative environment. Must be able to organize and coordinate.
  • Ability to identify and react appropriately to "poor/ non-swimmers", medical emergencies, and unruly guests.
  • Must have the ability to understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.

Bargaining Unit: Non-Aligned

Salary Information: In compliance with the NJ Pay Transparency Law, the hourly rate/range for this position is $15-$18 (USD). NJIT considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses or other items.

FLSA: Non-Exempt Part-Time
