Department: NIAR ATLAS Lab Campus Location: Wichita, KS - WSU Main Campus Hire Type: Part Time Pay: $15 - $18 per hour Work Schedule: Based on class schedule Export Compliance Requirement: This position requires access to EAR or ITAR controlled technologies. Applicants are required to be eligible for employment under U.S. export control laws and must meet the requirement of being a "U.S. Citizen".

Job Story: The NIAR ATLAS lab is looking for a student assistant to help with testing and data analysis.

Job Summary: A student assistant will carry out administrative and technical tasks requested by a supervisor. Depending on the area the student assistant is employed in, they may assist and mentor other students or provide support throughout the campus in various forms.

Job Duties:

  • Assist in setting up and conducting composite mechanical testing and data analysis in accordance with standardized procedures.
  • Capable of independently completing assigned tasks while ensuring clear and consistent communication with the supervisor and research teams.

Required Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Requirements:

  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field in good academic standing with the university.
  • Basic knowledge of mechanical testing principles.
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Fundamental knowledge of core engineering principles relevant to the position (e.g., mechanics of materials, thermodynamics, etc.).
  • Capable of performing duties that involve standing and walking as part of the workday.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience/ Familiarity with CATIA V5, 3DX, MATLAB or similar software/programs
  • Creative problem-solving ability
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong attention to detail

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to remain in a stationary position.
  • Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, including but not limited to phones, printers, copiers, and calculators.
  • Ability to communicate with others and accurately exchange information.
