About the Role

As a Fire Alarm Systems Technician, you will install, troubleshoot, inspect, and maintain electrical fire detection systems. Your focus is to complete work efficiently, minimize downtime, and maximize system performance while clearly communicating system status and recommendations to customers.

A Day in This Role

  • Review blueprints, diagrams, submittals, specifications, and schematics to plan work and conduct technical reviews.
  • Supervise and inspect installations to ensure they meet customer specifications and quality standards.
  • Perform complete installations: run cable, mount devices, wire devices and control panels, and program/test equipment.
  • Use hand and power tools to carry out varied installation and service tasks.
  • Continuously learn new products, upgrades, and software related to fire and security systems.
  • Evaluate and diagnose service needs; identify root causes and resolve issues.
  • Provide customers with precise, cost-effective solutions to restore systems to proper operation.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance on customer equipment.
  • Accurately track time, service/installation tickets, and inventory items.
  • Comply fully with company and customer safety programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Reporting Lines

Accountability: You will be accountable to the Project Manager. Secondary accountability will be to other management team members, employees, and customers.

What You Bring

  • 5+ years of experience testing, maintaining, and servicing fire alarm systems; access control and CCTV experience is a plus.
  • Background as an apprentice electrician or low-voltage technician (minimum), with hands-on installations of fire alarm, CCTV components, and access control systems.
  • Working knowledge of basic software applications, communication technologies, and some lock hardware applications.
  • Leadership experience with the ability to instruct installation assistants to perform basic tasks proficiently.
  • Demonstrated customer service experience and excellent interpersonal/communication skills.

Education & Credentials

  • High school diploma (minimum) and NICET certification.
  • Basic English reading/writing proficiency and the ability to compute basic math functions.
  • Ability to read CAD-generated prints, building blueprints, and riser diagrams.
  • Solid foundation in basic electronics/electrical theory (formal instruction preferred).
  • Proficient with PCs and capable in simple engineering and construction concepts.
  • Preferred: Factory training.
  • Basic computer skills and knowledge of applicable codes (NICET, NFPA, etc.).

Travel

Some out-of-town travel may be required.

Physical, Mental, and Environmental Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, climb, sit, and use hands/fingers.
  • Ability to ascend, descend, and work atop ladders of varying heights, including those exceeding 30 feet.
  • Occasional light lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Reaching, grasping, and carrying activities.
  • Moderate noise level in typical work environments.
  • Primarily indoor work with occasional outdoor tasks subject to seasonal temperature changes.
  • Ability to safely operate Mobile Work Platforms/Articulating Man Lifts after applicable training/certification.
  • Visual ability to detect obstacles at 30 yards and verify written information at close range.
