Nickelback Sorter (Per-Diem)

Nickelback Redemption Center – operated by The Arc of Oneida‑Lewis Chapter

Looking for flexible hours and a way to earn extra income? The Nickelback Redemption Center is hiring a Per-Diem Nickelback Sorter. This is a great opportunity for someone who already works full-time or has other commitments and is looking to pick up additional hours in a flexible, hands-on environment.

Schedule & Flexibility

  • Per-diem, flexible scheduling

  • Open hours:

    • Tuesday–Friday: 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM

    • Saturday: 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM

  • Work as many or as few shifts as your availability allows

Position Overview

Nickelback Sorters play a key role in the daily operations of the redemption center. This position involves sorting bottles and cans, accurately handling deposit transactions, and providing friendly customer service to individuals dropping off recyclables. This is an active role ideal for someone who enjoys staying busy and working with people.

Key Responsibilities

  • Sort and count bottles, cans, and recyclables by vendor and category

  • Accurately count returns and dispense correct deposit amounts

  • Handle cash transactions and maintain accurate records

  • Provide friendly, respectful customer service to all visitors

  • Assist customers with drop-offs and answer basic questions

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work environment

  • Assist with loading and unloading materials as needed

  • Follow all safety procedures and agency policies

  • Work independently and as part of a team

Qualifications

  • Ability to handle cash and perform accurate counting

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

  • Comfortable interacting with customers and the public

  • Ability to work independently and stay productive

  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly

  • Ability to perform repetitive hand and arm movements

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and varying temperatures

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred

  • Prior work or customer service experience preferred
