Job Description Summary
The Night Auditor is responsible for delivering exceptional guest service while overseeing overnight hotel operations, front desk activities, and daily financial auditing functions. This role reconciles hotel revenue transactions, prepares financial and operational reports, manages guest registrations and reservations, processes payments, and serves as a key point of contact during overnight hours. The Night Auditor also supports hotel operations by maintaining the marketplace, assisting guests with purchases and special requests, monitoring security-related matters, and ensuring compliance with company policies and applicable laws. Success in this role requires strong customer service, attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
Job Description
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients in accordance with Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards.
- Perform daily night audit functions by balancing and reconciling room, food and beverage, tax, cashier, and guest account transactions to ensure the accuracy of hotel revenues.
- Prepare and distribute daily, weekly, and month-end financial and operational reports, including supporting documentation, to ensure accurate accounting of hotel revenues and expenses.
- Register guests, assign room keys, provide information regarding hotel services and loyalty programs, answer telephone inquiries, and assist guests with requests to ensure exceptional customer service.
- Support the operation of the hotel's marketplace by stocking and maintaining inventory, assisting guests with purchases of snacks, beverages, and other convenience items, and ensuring compliance with all applicable alcohol sales laws and regulations.
- Process guest payments and maintain cash-handling procedures, including posting charges, reconciling transactions, preparing deposits, and securing assigned cash banks.
- Manage individual and group reservations, including bookings, cancellations, modifications, and updates, while promoting room upgrades and other revenue-enhancing opportunities.
- Serve as the security point of contact during assigned shifts.
- Communicate with the Operations Manager to resolve accounting discrepancies and exchange operational and financial information as needed.
- Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with team members, other shifts, and department management.
- Ensure guest special requests are fulfilled and services are delivered in a timely and professional manner.
- Comply with all federal, state, and local laws, as well as company policies, regarding health, safety, and alcohol service.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Minimum of one year of hotel, hospitality, customer service, or related experience preferred.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend documents related to guest registration, reservations, and department records.
- Ability to speak, read, and write proficiently in English; additional language skills are a plus.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, percentages, and reconciliations.
- Strong problem-solving, organizational, and customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; experience with Opera or other property management systems preferred.
- Ability to work independently and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced environment.
- ServSafe certification required or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.

- Ability to frequently bend, reach, and move throughout the hotel.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds.
