The Medical Lab Scientist is responsible for the collection and processing of laboratory specimens as well as the reporting of results and preparation of reports at the COLA/CLIA moderate complexity level.
Duties include processing patient samples, Daily QC and Calibrations on various analyzers.
Key Areas of Responsibility
• Perform Complex Testing: Conduct tests in various disciplines like Chemistry, Blood bank, Hematology, Microbiology, and Immunology on patient samples. • Analyze & Interpret Results: Examine blood cells, identify microorganisms, check blood chemistry (glucose, electrolytes), and perform blood typing for transfusions. • Ensure Quality & Accuracy: Implement quality control, calibrate instruments, validate methods, and troubleshoot issues to guarantee reliable data. • Communicate Findings: Report critical results promptly to physicians and nurses, explaining the significance of the lab data. • Maintain Equipment: Calibrate, maintain, and validate advanced laboratory instruments. • Consult & Research: Advise healthcare providers on test selection and may design or evaluate new testing methods.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor of Science • MLS (ASCP) or AMA • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing • Good interpersonal skills in dealing with patients, families, and all healthcare professionals and TVHC staff. • Basic knowledge in computer use; including word processing and spread sheet applications. • Excellent organizational skills • Ability to maintain and follow guidelines set for standards of practice in quality patient care, and infection control practices as required by state, federal and hospital policy regulations.
Preferred Qualifications
• Four plus years of work experience as Laboratory generalist • Four plus years of Blood bank experience • CPR/BLS Healthcare Certification • Additional languages-Spanish preferred
