We are seeking a reliable and attentive individual to serve as a Night-Shift Security and Fire Prevention Specialist at our facility. This part-time role is crucial in ensuring the safety and security of the premises during non-operational hours. The specialist will maintain a physical presence on site, monitor for safety hazards, and conduct hourly facility walkthroughs to identify and mitigate fire risks-particularly those associated with compost pit activity. Shift Schedule: 3-4 nights/week Approximately 12:00 AM - 6:00 AM (5-6 hours/shift - may vary by location)
Key Responsibilities- Maintain an on-site presence throughout assigned overnight shifts to ensure the facility is never left unattended.
- Conduct scheduled hourly patrols of the facility, including high-risk areas such as compost pits, to inspect for any abnormal conditions or fire hazards.
- Document findings from each walkthrough and report any observed irregularities, hazards, or security concerns promptly to appropriate personnel.
- Monitor environmental conditions and identify early warning signs of combustion (e.g., unusual heat, smoke, odors).
- Ensure all doors, gates, and access points remain secure during shift hours.
- Respond calmly and effectively to any emergencies, following established safety protocols.
- Maintain clear and accurate shift logs, including all checks, incidents, and communications.
Qualifications- Previous experience in security, fire prevention, facilities maintenance, or a related role preferred.
- Ability to work overnight shifts independently with minimal supervision.
- Physically able to walk, stand, and patrol the facility for the duration of the shift.
- Attention to detail and strong observational skills.
- Basic understanding of fire prevention principles, especially related to composting operations, is a plus.
- Dependable, punctual, and committed to safety and accountability.
Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, reach, and use hands and arms to handle or operate tools, equipment, and materials. The employee frequently climbs stairs, bends, stoops, and moves about the facility, including outdoor and uneven terrain. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance and may be required to push, pull, or maneuver heavy objects and equipment as part of daily operations. Specific vision abilities required for this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Work Environment:
Work is conducted in both indoor and outdoor areas of the facility. Employees may be exposed to dust, dirt, mud, loud noise, strong odors, heavy machinery in proximity, and potentially extreme weather conditions. Terrain may be uneven, soft, or shifting. Low/variable lighting and slip, trip, or fall hazards should be expected. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety harness, hard hat, high-visibility apparel, safety footwear, gloves, safety glasses, and issued lighting devices, will be provided and must be worn as required when on site. When applicable, employees required to wear a respirator must successfully complete a company-provided medical evaluation and fit test prior to use and maintain ongoing compliance with all applicable training and certification requirements.
