Job Title: Night Shift Supervisor (RN/LPN)

Shift: 6p-2a M-F 


Position Summary

The Night Shift Unit Manager Nurse is responsible for overseeing the delivery of resident care during overnight hours in a long-term care facility. This role ensures high-quality, safe, and compliant care while supervising nursing staff, coordinating clinical activities, and responding to resident needs and emergencies.


Key Responsibilities

Clinical Oversight

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate resident care plans
  • Monitor residents for changes in condition and initiate appropriate interventions
  • Ensure accurate and timely documentation in medical records
  • Administer medications and treatments per physician orders and facility policies
  • Respond to emergencies and provide leadership during critical situations

Staff Supervision

  • Supervise and support nursing staff (RNs, LPNs, CNAs) on the unit
  • Assign duties and ensure adequate staffing levels
  • Provide guidance, coaching, and performance feedback
  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff

Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (e.g., CMS guidelines)
  • Follow infection control protocols and safety procedures
  • Participate in audits, quality assurance, and performance improvement activities

Communication & Coordination

  • Communicate effectively with physicians, families, and interdisciplinary team members
  • Provide detailed shift reports and ensure continuity of care between shifts
  • Notify appropriate parties of significant changes in resident condition

Administrative Duties

  • Maintain staffing schedules and report staffing concerns
  • Review incident reports and follow up as needed
  • Ensure supplies and equipment are available and functioning properly

Qualifications

  • Current, active RN or LPN license in the state of practice (e.g., Indiana)
  • Minimum of 2–3 years of nursing experience, preferably in long-term care or skilled nursing
  • Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred
  • Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities

Working Conditions

  • Night shift hours, including weekends and holidays as required
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 50 lbs with assistance)
  • Exposure to healthcare environment conditions, including infectious diseases
