Summary:

Use available tools to grind excess from casting.   Process and blend to Palmer Foundry standards using tools and methods in accordance with Palmer Foundry standards.  Use hard wax and/or tallow as required to prevent aluminum build up. 

This position may require access to export-controlled technology or software source code that is subject to export controls restrictions under the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (“ITAR”) and the Export Administration Regulations (“EAR”) and will therefore be required to meet eligibility criteria under ITAR and EAR regulations.

Duties:

Use various air or power-driven tools to remove flash; use available tools to grind excess from casting. Process and blend using tools and methods to do this to Palmer Foundry standards. Use hard wax and/or tallow as required to prevent aluminum build up.

Belt Grinding

  • After casting(s) have been cut-off, belt grind parts as required by workmanship standards.
  • Without grinding into casting or changing contour of casting, grind gate areas and chill marks down to an amount that can be finished with 7-inch grinder or other tools.

7 inch grinding

  • Finish off belt-ground gate areas and chill marks to amount that can be finished with smaller blending tools.
  • Grind all areas that need grinding with 7 inch to either amount that can be finished with smaller blending tools or to finished state.

Finish grinding (blending)

  • Blend all areas with various hand air tools to finished state without grinding into, or changing contours of, casting.
  • Inspect and disposition castings finish using Cast Microfinish Comparator to PF Standard
  • If casting does not meet workmanship standards, perform required rework or send to weld repair.

Other:

  • Inspect crane system
  • Rig parts for crane to hoist
  • Operate pneumatic tools and lift table
  • Read & interpret spec sheets; perform work to spec sheets
  • Identify non-conforming material
  • Enter data into computer
  • Deliver finished parts to shipping/receiving area
  • Attend production meetings
  • Complete department safety sheets
  • Clean and maintain area
  • Perform other duties or assignments as directed by management

Education/Experience:

No specific education or certification is required, however, high school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training (or equivalent combination of education and experience) is desired.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The employee is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather), extreme heat, and work near moving mechanical parts. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include Close vision, Peripheral vision, Depth perception and ability to adjust focus. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  The job requires standing all day and operating a variety of power tools.
