Nocturnist PEM Attending Physician (M68002) Emergency Medicine - SOM

Mission or Goal of Unit: Ourmission is to provide unparalleled patient care, educate and train emergingleaders in emergency medicine and set a national standard for quality andsafety metrics by responding to the changing needs of emergency healthcarethrough innovative research and systems development.

Chief Purpose of this position: We areseeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join our dynamic pediatricacademic emergency medicine team as a nocturnist. The candidate will contribute toour mission of providing exceptional patient care, innovative research, andhigh-quality education in emergency medicine.

Theposition will hold a faculty appointment in the VCU Department of EmergencyMedicine and will work clinically in Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCUPediatric Emergency Department (ED), which is a largely underserved, Level 1Pediatric Trauma Center. The Pediatric ED treats over 28,000 patients per yearand has experienced rapid growth in the past two years with the opening of anew dedicated pediatric Inpatient Hospital in 2023.

TheDivision of Pediatric Emergency Medicine in the VCU Department of EmergencyMedicine houses a three-year Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowshipprogram.  Additionally, Pediatric andEmergency Medicine residents both have rotations in the Pediatric ED.

Faculty may be recruited atthe rank of Assistant, Associate, or full Professor commensurate withexperience.

Position Responsibilities:

• Clinical - Provide excellent clinical care by demonstrating proficiency in the evaluation, diagnosis, and management of a wide range of acute medical and traumatic conditions. Provide efficient, high quality patient care that reflects current professional practice norms and skills and is consistent with accepted utilization guidelines.
• Teaching - Participate actively in teaching medical students, residents, and fellows, providing didactic lectures, bedside teaching, and simulation-based training.
• Research - Engage in impactful research and scholarly activities, generating knowledge and contributing to advancements in emergency medicine practice.
• Quality/Safety - Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to improve patient outcomes, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and promote patient safety and satisfaction.
• Administrative:  Contribute to administrative and leadership responsibilities within the department, fostering a positive work environment and supporting the growth of emergency medicine services.

Required Qualifications: 

• Unrestricted Virginia Medical license or ability to obtain.
• Board Certified/Board Eligible in Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
• Demonstrated commitment to excellence in clinical care, education, and research within the field of Pediatric Emergency Medicine.
• Completion of a Pediatric Emergency Medicine Fellowship.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering an environment of respect, professionalism and civility with a population of faculty, staff, and students from various backgrounds and experiences or a commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
