Job Duties

• Operate a yard goat (yard dog) with an automatic transmission
• Move 53′ trailers in and out of dock doors
• Relocate trailers and containers throughout the yard
• Move approximately 30-50 trailers per shift
• Utilize an onboard computer system to manage trailer movements
• Perform frequent backing maneuvers, including blindside backing
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections
• Follow all yard safety procedures and customer protocols
• Exit equipment to chock trailer wheels during loading operations
• Verify trailers are clear before pulling away from dock doors
• Maintain a safe and productive pace throughout the shift
• Remain on-site within the yard during all operations

Driving Requirements

• Minimum age of 22
• At least 1 year of yard hostling experience within the past 3 years
• Strong backing skills, including blindside backing
• Ability to pass a customer interview and road test before placement
• Safety-focused with a strong understanding of yard procedures and protocols
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment

As a Non CDL Yard Hostler you will safely operate vehicles to transport goods, materials, or equipment while following established routes, schedules, and safety regulations. You will perform vehicle inspections, maintain required documentation, communicate with dispatch or customers as needed, and help ensure deliveries are completed safely, accurately, and on time while maintaining a professional appearance and commitment to customer service.
