The Anesthesia Technician performs duties under the supervision of a licensed anesthesia provider, and reports to the Director of OR\SPD. The technician assists the licensed anesthesia provider in clinical settings such as: the surgical suite, obstetric suite, radiology, PACU, ICU, Cath Lab, MRI, GI Lab, Emergency Room, and other areas as deemed necessary to accomplish our mission.

- Filling vaporizers, calibrating anesthesia machines, set up invasive lines.

Essential Physical Requirements
- Moving, anesthesia carts, anesthesia supplies, gas machines, patients, etc.
- Climbing, step ladder for stocking and plugging in gas machines.
- Assembling equipment for anesthesia carts, gas machines, invasive lines, etc. crouching, kneeling or stooping.
- Stocking carts, shelves, gas machines, etc.
- Reaching, stocking and connecting machines.
- Standing and walking.
- Stocking, retrieving supplies and equipment, etc.
- Operating, testing and calibrating equipment and anesthesia machines.
- Pushing and pulling, anesthesia machines in excess of 500 pounds, cart of supplies, etc.
- Lifting, supplies (40 pounds), monitoring equipment on gas machines (40 pounds), patients (100 pounds).
Essential Mental Abilities
- Manipulate numbers.
- Stock levels, monitor settings, supply orders, etc.
- Interpret data, calibration of gas machines.
- Analyze; trouble shoot problems with anesthesia equipment.
- Comprehend/understand needs of anesthesia department.
- Explain, problems and functions of machines to others including bio technical personnel.
- Assess and evaluates status of equipment and gas machines.
- Alertness, needs of the department, equipment malfunctions.
- Follow rules/instruction, policy/procedure of department with minimal supervision.
- Organizational skills, stocking and arranging equipment.
Essential Sensory Requirements
- Visual, see equipment and read data on machine, stock shelves appropriately.
- Hearing; respond to requests of anesthesia personnel wearing masks, alarms on machines, departmental pages.
- Distinguish colors, color-coded equipment.
Exposure to Hazards
- Blood and body fluids, anesthesia drugs and gasses, surgical chemical compounds, radiation, cleaning compounds, wet floors, needle sticks, cuts from contaminated blades.
Other Skills and Abilities
- Sets-up, checks, and maintains anesthesia machines and monitoring equipment following manufacturer instructions. Complete quality controls monitors related to anesthesia equipment and instrumentation and maintain records as directed.
- Cleans, tests, and stocks anesthesia equipment and supplies between procedures.
- Order supplies, drugs and equipment. Manage anesthesia workroom and carts.
- Dispose of contaminated materials or clean, disinfect or provide for sterilization of anesthesia instrumentation.
- Possess a basic understanding of anatomy and physiology as they apply to anesthesia care. Differentiates between General, Regional, and Monitored Anesthesia Care, and provide appropriate assistance to Anesthesia provider in implementation of Anesthesia Plan of Care.
- If licensed LPN or RN IV Certified: Preparation and administration of medications, monitor patients' response to medication and report data under the supervision of the Anesthesiologist.
- Participates in a system to support and continually improve the quality of anesthesia services provided to patients and their families, fellow caregivers, physicians and other customers.
- Provide devices and assist with airway management, and assist with establishment of vascular access and monitoring.
- Assist with procedures for anesthesia emergencies including but not limited to cardiac arrest and malignant hyperthermia.
- Provide assistance with patient transportation, positioning, and placement of monitoring devices.
