Position Overview

Lincoln County Schools is seeking Non-Congregate Meal Program Cooks to support the USDA Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) through centralized meal preparation and site-based distribution of multi-day meal boxes.

This position is responsible for the preparation, packaging, and distribution of reimbursable meals in compliance with USDA SFSP non-congregate meal requirements. Staff will ensure food safety, program integrity, and accurate distribution of meals only to eligible children or their parent/guardian.

Work Schedule & Hours

  • Maximum Hours: Up to 20 hours per week
  • Meal Preparation Site: Lincoln County Schools Central Office Kitchen
  • Dates of Employment: Beginning June 1, 2026 through August 6, 2026
  • Meal Preparation Days: Mondays and Tuesdays (work hours may vary based on participation, production needs, and staffing levels)
  • Distribution Day: Thursdays from 12:00 PM â 5:00 PM at designated school distribution sites

Position Details

  • Hourly Rate: $20.00
  • Funding Source: Food Service Funds
  • Work Assignment: Central kitchen production with weekly site distribution responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities

Meal Preparation (Central Kitchen â Monday/Tuesday)

  • Prepare and package multi-day meal boxes in accordance with USDA SFSP meal patterns and approved menus.
  • Ensure accurate portioning, labeling, and assembly of reimbursable meals.
  • Maintain strict food safety and sanitation standards during preparation and packaging.
  • Monitor and document required food temperatures during preparation, storage, and staging.
  • Assist with inventory control, supply tracking, and kitchen organization.

Meal Distribution (Site-Based â Thursdays, 12:00 PMâ5:00 PM)

  • Support delivery and setup of meal boxes at designated distribution sites.
  • Operate non-congregate meal pickup sites in compliance with USDA SFSP regulations.
  • Distribute meals only to eligible children or their parent/guardian.
  • Maintain accurate daily distribution logs, rosters, or sign-in documentation.
  • Implement procedures to prevent duplicate or improper meal distribution.

Food Safety & Compliance

  • Ensure all food handling, storage, transport, and distribution practices meet USDA, state, and local health department requirements.
  • Maintain required temperature logs for hot/cold holding and transport.
  • Ensure each meal box includes:
  • Menu or meal component listing
  • Portion sizes and reimbursable meal documentation
  • Storage and handling instructions, when applicable

Civil Rights & Program Integrity

  • Ensure compliance with USDA Civil Rights requirements, including:

  • Display of the "And Justice for All" poster at preparation and distribution sites

  • Inclusion of the USDA Nondiscrimination Statement with meal materials

  • Provide equitable, professional service to all participants at all times.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Must have passed WV State Cook competency testing or hold/previously held Cook classification
  • Must be a current employee of Lincoln County Schools
  • Food handler certification required or must be obtained if applicable
  • Experience in school food service, institutional cooking, or large-scale meal production preferred

Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to prepare large quantities of food accurately and efficiently
  • Knowledge of USDA meal pattern requirements and food safety standards
  • Ability to follow standardized recipes and production schedules
  • Strong attention to detail in packaging and documentation
  • Ability to work in both centralized production and public-facing distribution settings
  • Ability to maintain compliance records and support program integrity

Additional Duties

Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Child Nutrition or designee to support successful implementation of the Summer Food Service Program.

The schedule for non-congregate meal service positions may be adjusted or flexed around congregate meal service hours when an employee is hired to work in both capacities, at the discretion of the Director of Child Nutrition, based on operational needs.
