Description Benefits Job Summary A Class A Lineman Instructor is a skilled position in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electrical overhead and underground distribution systems. This position involves instructing on the rules and policies associated with the electric utility industry, as defined by OSHA 1910.269. Responsible for demonstrating LSSC's core values of Caring, Communicating, Collaborating, and Celebrating when interacting with students, employees, visitors, and community members.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following: • Develops and adapts lesson plans tailored to the needs of each student cohort. • Assesses student performance, maintains accurate records, and monitors progress. • Tracks cohort outcomes and provides documentation and reports as requested. • Performs new construction, maintenance, and repair work on simulated energized and de-energized overhead electrical systems. Ensure all work is completed safely and effectively in a training or operational environment. • Demonstrates and leads safe practices for working with high voltage systems and provides technical guidance to peers or class members as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Extensive knowledge of overhead electrical distribution systems, including simulated energized and de-energized operations. Skilled in the installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of components such as transformers, switches, cutouts, crossarms, and insulators. Proficient in reading job prints/work orders and planning safe work procedures. Ability to identify system voltages, understand grounding and induced voltage, and use phasing sticks, load bust tools, and mechanical jumpers. Experienced in conducting safety briefings and leading crews or students in high-voltage training environments. Capable of working at heights, in confined spaces, and performing physically demanding tasks in all weather conditions. Demonstrated commitment to safety, proper use of PPE, and equipment/tool maintenance. Effective communicator with the ability to teach and model safe electrical practices in a hands-on instructional setting.
