Must be a current SHSU full-time, non-exempt staff employee.
UPD staff and exempt employees are not eligible for this position. Employees who are interested should discuss participation with their department head.
If, at any time during the fiscal year or while participating in the special events program, an employee transfers to a position that is not eligible for FLSA overtime (e.g., faculty or exempt staff), they will no longer be eligible to work special events in this position or earn overtime through the program.
Nature & Purpose of Position
Serve our University and community after hours by working Athletic and other special events - and get paid time and a half. Those hired will provide temporary, usually day/evening of support to university departments hosting special events by assisting with a variety of tasks helping manage the flow and service of attendees. These are short-term, usually one day or evening assignments. Employment is based on departmental staffing needs, which vary throughout the year.
Primary Responsibilities
These assignments may include, but are not limited to, events and other work-related responsibilities outside of normal work hours. Specific tasks are determined by the host department.
Other Specifications
These temporary assignments cannot conflict with the responsibilities and schedule of an employee's primary full-time position.
Note for applicants whose primary SHSU job assignment is considered or becomes that of an "essential employee." Essential employees must comply with the request of their supervisors to serve when needed as described in policy FO-PAY-35. As such an employee deemed essential, must put the duties of their primary assignment above that of any special event assignment (should an essential need arise that conflicts with a special event). Must be able to stand for a significant period of time and lift at least 25 lbs.
