The mission of the Office of Accessibility Resources and Services (OARS) is to create an accessible and inclusive environment where a student's educational potential is maximized through the fostering of independence, self-advocacy, and individual holistic development.
The Non-Federal Textbook Conversion Student Worker position will convert hard-copy and inaccessible PDF textbooks into a digitally accessible format for OARS registered students approved for the Accessible Alternative Formats accommodation. This position will also assist students with the OARS Student Application, attend campus outreach events, complete front desk duties and be a note taker in classes for OARS registered students who are Blind and Low-Vision.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Receive supervision from and assist the OARS Assistive Technology Specialist with the textbook conversion process:
Importing scanned files into the appropriate software applications based on a student's individualized disability needs
Prepares hard copy textbooks for electronic conversion by utilizing appropriate Optical Character Recognition (OCR) tools
Complete front desk duties (answering the phone and taking messages) and meet and greet visitors, OARS registered students, faculty and staff in a professional manner
Entering student data and assisting students with their OARS Student Registration application through the myOARS database
Maintain confidentiality of student data and information at all times even outside of work hours
Receive training in and provide notes for OARS registered students who are Blind and Low-Vision
Attend UCA campus outreach events where OARS is asked to be a representative
Attend all student worker meetings as scheduled
