The Mid-Utica Neighborhood Preservation Corporation (MUNPC), historically known as the Leisure Time Activity Center and commonly referred to as Mid-Utica, is a historically Black-founded organization that works to build and preserve our community, culture, and history while ending blight in the Greater Utica area since 1979. We currently operate the Bessie Hicks Senior Program - adult social programming, physical fitness, and bible studies- Utica’s annual Juneteenth celebration, and a series of youth programs under Project RISE out of the Empowerment Center. In the Cornhill Leisure Time Activity Center, we historically provided community gathering/event space, early childhood education, and youth day care services. As a critical long-term partner of the transformative Cornhill Revitalization Initiative, we are currently in year four of the Community Foundation of Herkimer and Oneida Counties, Inc.’s award to MUNPC for a 5-year, $300,000 grant for capacity building, which includes funding for our next Executive Director.
The Executive Director is responsible for continuing to develop MUNPC as a dynamic community development organization that can champion the voice and needs of Utica’s most marginalized community members. The Cornhill Revitalization Initiative includes the management of the multi-site Cornhill impact centers, one of which will be constructed at the original site of the Leisure Time Activity Center. The Executive Director’s ongoing primary responsibilities will include strategic planning and board development, cross-sector collaborations, fundraising, and staff management for operations and programming. The Executive Director will evaluate and, as necessary, redefine aspects of the role to effectively lead within the organization, the community, and the Cornhill Revitalization Initiative.
