Description

Creighton University's Department of Fine & Performing Arts invites applications for a non-tenure track Assistant Professor of Theatre, beginning in August 2026. Candidates should have experience teaching at the undergraduate level. In addition to assuming responsibility for technical direction and production management for up to four productions per years, candidates will teach a 2-2 undergraduate course load based upon experience and departmental needs, including lighting design and upper-level courses. We prefer candidates with interest in community engagement, service learning, and especially teaching theatre. Additionally, we are looking for candidates who can foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs.

Qualifications

  • M.F.A. in Theatre or closely related degree such as Technical Direction required
  • Candidates with interest in community engagement, service learning, and teaching theatre preferred
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in scenic construction, structural engineering for the stage and rigging
  • Advanced skills in theatrical drafting software (Vectorworks or AutoCAD)
  • Prior experience teaching or a demonstrated ability to instruct and safely manage undergraduate students in a technical environment
  • Proven ability to manage multi-venue calendars, student labor pools, and complex materials budgets
  • Ability to foster student learning, development, and decision making in support of their goals, success, wellness, and needs
  • Evidence of excellent college level teaching preferred
  • Empathy and compassion for the experiences of others

  • Three letters of recommendation, at least two of which should speak to the candidate's teaching ability
