Position Summary
The Institute for Genomics and Evolutionary Medicine (iGEM) at Temple University invites applications for multiple non-tenure-track Assistant Professor of Research positions in genetic variation, computational genomics, and molecular evolution. Successful candidates will develop and apply statistical, computational, and artificial-intelligence approaches to analyze genome-scale variation across individuals, populations, and species. Research may address fundamental or biomedical questions in molecular evolution, phylogenomics, functional genomics, genome dynamics, genetic disease, and phylomedicine.
These positions are designed for early-career computational scientists who will initially work closely within the research program of an iGEM faculty member while contributing broadly to the institute's scientific mission. Successful candidates will take intellectual leadership of major research projects, contribute to the mentoring and training of students and researchers, and collaborate with faculty across iGEM and Temple University. Over time, appointed candidates will be encouraged to establish distinct scientific profiles, pursue new research directions, and progressively develop independent portfolios of extramural funding.
The positions provide an opportunity to combine the intellectual support, collaborative environment, and research infrastructure of an established program with a pathway toward increasing scientific independence and leadership.

The Institute was established at Temple University in 2014 and is housed in the College of Science and Technology. iGEM's mission is to harness evolutionary knowledge to advance fundamental research and develop applications spanning biomedicine, genomics, and biodiversity.
iGEM brings together tenured, tenure-track, and research faculty with expertise in molecular evolution, computational biology, genomics, bioinformatics, and related disciplines. Its faculty lead externally funded research and development programs, participate in undergraduate and graduate teaching programs, and collaborate across departments, colleges, and institutions. Responsibilities
Successful candidates will:
• Develop and apply statistical, computational, machine-learning, and deep-learning approaches to address important questions in evolutionary biology, genomics, and biomedicine.
• Design and implement advanced computational frameworks for analyzing large and complex genomic datasets across individuals, populations, and species.
• Take intellectual leadership of major research projects, including the formulation of research questions, development of analytical strategies, interpretation of results, and preparation of publications.
• Produce high-quality research publications and contribute to the development and dissemination of computational methods, software, and reproducible analytical resources.
• Contribute to ongoing collaborative and grant-funded projects within an iGEM faculty members' research program.
• Initiate new research directions and progressively pursue extramural funding as a principal investigator, co-investigator, or key personnel, as appropriate to experience and career stage.
• Collaborate with faculty, research staff, postdoctoral fellows, and students across iGEM and Temple University.
• Participate in the co-mentoring and training of undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and other trainees.
• Contribute to the broader scientific activities of iGEM, including seminars, workshops, collaborative meetings and research-development initiatives.
These positions are primarily research focused. Opportunities may also be available to contribute to undergraduate or graduate teaching, workshops, and team-based training activities.
