What We Are Looking For

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and mission-driven Accountant who is passionate about nonprofit work and financial integrity. The ideal candidate brings experience in financial reporting, grant accounting, and compliance, and is comfortable managing multiple program budgets and funding requirements. This individual should be analytical, organized, and collaborative, with the ability to maintain accuracy and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Role Overview

The Nonprofit Accountant / Staff Accountant supports the organization’s financial operations, including financial reporting, general ledger maintenance, grant accounting, and compliance. This role ensures that financial transactions are accurately recorded and that reporting requirements for internal and external stakeholders are met in accordance with applicable standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Maintain the general ledger and ensure accurate recording of financial transactions.
  • Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures, including preparation of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules.
  • Develop and monitor program budgets, perform financial forecasting, and conduct variance analysis.
  • Prepare financial reports and analyses to support organizational decision-making.
  • Manage grant accounting activities, including preparation of grant budgets, financial reports, reimbursement requests, and supporting documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and organizational financial regulations, including grant requirements.
  • Assist with preparation of audit schedules and provide supporting documentation for external financial statement audits.
  • Monitor internal controls and ensure compliance with financial policies and procedures.
  • Perform accounts payable and accounts receivable functions, including invoice review and payment processing.
  • Maintain accurate financial records using accounting software such as QuickBooks or similar systems.
  • Analyze financial data and provide recommendations regarding budgeting, cost control, and financial performance.
  • Collaborate with program managers and leadership to support financial planning and grant compliance.
  • Prepare financial documentation and reports required by funding agencies.

Requirements & Qualifications

Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field (required).
  • Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required).
Experience
  • Minimum of2 years of professional accounting experience.
  • Experience in nonprofit accounting or working with grant-funded programs (preferred).
  • Experience with financial reporting and compliance.
Skills & Competencies
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
  • Experience with grant accounting and compliance requirements.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks (or similar systems) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.

  • Must be able to pass fingerprint clearance and a background check, including criminal history, employment, education, and reference verification.
