Scion Staffing has been engaged to conduct a search for a Program Manager for a highly respected, mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to improving equitable access to cancer support, education, and care. This is a full-time, direct-hire opportunity based in Berkeley, CA, with regular onsite work required and limited remote flexibility.

POSITION OVERVIEW

This is an exciting opportunity for a compassionate and community-centered program professional to help expand access to culturally responsive support services for Black and African American women and nonbinary individuals impacted by cancer.

The Program Manager will lead program development and evaluation, community outreach and education, client engagement, and the supervision of patient navigation staff and volunteers. Working collaboratively across the organization and with community partners, this individual will help identify and reduce barriers to care, strengthen relationships within Black and African American communities, and ensure programs reflect the needs, experiences, and voices of the people they serve.

The ideal candidate brings a strong background in community-based programming, health equity, outreach, or social services and approaches their work with cultural humility, empathy, and a commitment to building trusted community relationships.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

• Develop, implement, and oversee culturally responsive programs serving Black and African American women and nonbinary individuals impacted by cancer.
• Build and maintain strong partnerships with community organizations, healthcare providers, faith-based groups, community leaders, and other stakeholders.
• Lead community outreach, education, presentations, and events to increase awareness of available programs and services.
• Supervise and support patient navigation staff and volunteers, fostering a compassionate, culturally humble, trauma-informed, and client-centered environment.
• Incorporate community feedback, lived experience, and best practices into program development while identifying opportunities to reduce barriers to care.
• Track program participation and outcomes, support grant-related data collection and reporting, and collaborate across teams on organizational goals and continuous improvement.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

• Bachelor's degree in public health, social work, community health, nonprofit management, or a related field; equivalent education, professional, community-based, and/or lived experience will also be considered.
• At least 3 years of experience in community outreach, program management, social services, community health, or a related area.
• Experience working with Black and African American communities, with an understanding of health disparities, health equity, and barriers to care.
• Experience developing and managing culturally responsive, community-based or direct-service programs.
• Demonstrated experience supervising staff and/or volunteers.
• Strong relationship-building, community engagement, public speaking, and organizational skills, with a compassionate and culturally humble approach to the work.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

Experience supporting individuals impacted by cancer, chronic illness, or women's health is highly valued. Familiarity with trauma-informed and community-based approaches, knowledge of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties and their community resources, and experience engaging with multigenerational communities are also preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position based in Berkeley, California. Due to the community-facing nature of the role, regular onsite work is required, with limited remote flexibility as appropriate. Some evening and weekend availability may occasionally be necessary to support programs and community events.
