    Job Title: School Security Monitor Reports To: Principal FLSA Status: Classified Approved By: Board of Education Approved Date: June 27, 2005

    GENERAL DESCRIPTION Assist in providing a safe and secure environment for students, staff and the public while on school property.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

    • Monitors all areas that students frequent or where health, safety or efficient operation of the District is a concern.
    • Assists the school administration with minor student misconduct.
    • Attempts to recognize situations that could lead to misconduct and takes preventative action.
    • Intercepts unauthorized visitors and directs them to the school office or off the school property.
    • Enforces the District and school rules.
    • Reports rules infractions or suspicious activity to the school administration.
    • Helps to monitor areas at extra-curricular events when requested.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES This job has no supervisory responsibilities.

    EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE High school diploma or general education degree (GED); previous experience with students is preferred.

    CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS Valid certificate/license as issued by the Ohio Department of Education

    LANGUAGE SKILLS Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos. Ability to effectively present information and facts to the school administrators. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals.

    REASONING ABILITY Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out written or oral instructions. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations that may arise.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, sit and talk and hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and peripheral vision. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
